Hurricanes v Blues

  • Blues named

Pretty weak side. No Michael Little which is interesting. Hopefully Gibson gets on the field.

Blues will do well to get a losing bonus point out of this I think.

Blues team to play the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday (7.35pm):

Sam Prattley, James Parsons (c), Ofa Tu'ungafasi, Patrick Tuipulotu, Josh Bekhuis, Jerome Kaino, Kara Pryor, Steven Luatua; Bryn Hall, Ihaia West, Tevita Li, Piers Francis, Male S'au, Matt Duffie, Melani Nanai.
Reserves: Quentin MacDonald, Namatahi Waa, Sione Mafileo, Gerard Cowley-Tuioti or Hoani Matenga, Blake Gibson, Billy Guyton, Matt McGahan, Matt Vaega or Lolagi Visinia.

  • Internationals return to bolster Blues against Hurricanes

Internationals Jerome Kaino, Patrick Tuipulotu, Ofa Tu'ungafasi and Male Sa'u return to the Blues line-up for Saturday's Super Rugby match against the Hurricanes in Wellington.
Kaino, Tu'ungafasi and Tuipulotu were involved with the All Blacks series against Wales and Sa'u played for Japan against Scotland.
They will be welcome additions to the Blues, who have lost All Blacks Charlie Faumuina and George Moala to injury.
There's a relatively settled look to the side with a forward pack built around five current or former All Blacks, with the backs built around the core inside trio of Bryn Hall, Ihaia West and Piers Francis.
Sa'u, who played on the wing for Japan in their international series at home, will return to his usual role of centre for the injured Moala.
There is a welcome return of loose forward Blake Gibson to the reserves after missing six games after surgery to his thumb.
The potential debutant is young North Harbour lock Gerard Cowley-Tuioti, bracketed with Hoani Matenga, who is ill.
It is the final New Zealand derby match for the Blues who will complete their regular season with homes games against the Brumbies (Friday 8 July) and the Waratahs (Friday 15 July), both at Eden Park.

That made me smile, I just don't know how a shoulder dislocation couldn't be serious??

  • depends on how close you are to him at Mr Bun?

  • Well like Skudder at the start of the season it could be three weeks on the sidelines or the whole season.

  • On paper a walk in the park for the Canes so I am picking the blues by 1 and hope the Canes of old team turns up 🙂

A good old Hurricanes/Wellington choke would be great, although that usually happens in the finals

Yeah doesn't look great for us. Can't see us winning another game this year to be honest.

  • Cake walk at the Cake Tin!!

  • Blade Thomson dislocated his shoulder during the June break. Hopefully it ain't serious.

    Perhaps he found it again?

  • Game has kicked off! No Blues and Canes fans around at the moment?

Barrett about to kick first penalty of the match from about 35m out. And it's over.

  • 3-3 after Francis kicks a penalty, not sure why West isn't kicking.

  • Lol probably our best 10 mins of rugby in 5 years.

  • Blues in for a try to Kara Pryor. Lot of running in this match already.

Canes have missed 7 tackles already in this match.

    10-3.

Because Francis has to be good at one thing - its not tackling or running

  • Blues been quite impressive with ball in hand

  • Commentators say that JTA possibly has a broken fore arm.

  • Glad Jane has finally had a haircut. Looks like a rugby player again and not some poofy soccer player.
    Blues looking very sharp tonight.

He's improved massively - which is surprising.  Even slipped a tackle already tongiht
