97kg, 15.6% body fat

  • What is good and bad body fat percentages??

Mrs Bartman's got some flash scales that do BF percentage, and I was 15.6%.  Meaning  I have 15.3 kilod of FAT on my 1.81 metre frame!!

  • Worth remembering that you need fat on your body to live, eg around your heart. From memory, top athletes get under 10% and can go as low at 3/4% but can't maintain it long as it's so unhealthy.

10 to 20% is pretty good I think.

  • I'll take it then - log that in scotty!!

Certainlky a far cry from my 118kg days -thank good she didn't have those scales then!!

  • Under 15% for a front-row is pretty good. Under 10%, and you're hitting the limits of what you can do. Mate of mine who rowed once hit 4%Â

BTW, has Black Dragon been on to you to tell you you should be the next AB no. 8...?Â

  • being 1.81m tall, perhaps I would be more suited to halfback...Â

  • Looking at Weepu, you'd need to get the body fat back up again for that.Â

  • 15.6 is bloody good for an ectomorph your age Bart.  The rather loose classification of 'athlete' is for males whose bodyfat is 12% and under.

  • OI, so you're saying I am an old fat bastard RB  :knubble:

    Fair enough!!!

    Where you been lately RB?

Those the scales that work on running a signal through your feet? :-k They can be a little inaccurate Bart but anything under 20% is good 👏

I choose not to step on such scales :shifty:

  • How does it measure your fat %?

I did the ole BMI thing the other day and it said i was outside of my correct range which for a 6'1.5" chap is 10 stone 13lbs - 13stone 8lbs, the latter half of this although healthy on a BMI scale would seem to be underweight and unwell even.

Sends an electric pulse through your body and it travels faster through fat than other shite.

Ignore BMI it's a load of crap. As muscle weights more than fat, if you are even slightly fit it thinks you are fat. Any system that says all people of the same hieght should weigh pretty much the same is overly simplistic.

  • yeah, it's one of those scales - which I think are bullshit too, unless they give a good readingÂ

BMI - I think I am classed as dangerously obese, even when you put in the athlete type adjustments!!

  • Yeah, BMI is crap. Under that, you'd probably find most of the AB backline is borderline obese...

Yeah I used those new fangled scales a while back and the results surprised me.  In fact it weighed me as only 1% BF more than the caliper test I had that morning at the gym.

I read a story during the 03 World Cup, that accoring to their BMI, Mils was the only All Black not obese.
Yep - just did the calculations. At 182cm and 85kg, I'm overweight.

The likes of Nonu, fit into the obese category.

  • BMI makes too many assumptions over body fat percentage and body shape.
Yep, probably obese. Considering Bones is also my nickname, it's quite ironic I'm overweight.

    Here, go wild...
