@Canes4life I had heard that too but was reluctant to let it out of the bag on here. Even if WRFU have a longish contract it would be pointless them staying at NZCIS if they could not honour it financially and putting themselves further in the poo. If true hopefully common sense from both parties would prevail. If they bleed too much further cash they might be forced to drop out of the NPC and be consigned to play in the Heartland Championship!!!!!!!!!
Certainly a major fall from the halcyon early days of Super Rugby when their local affiliated Clubs received annual distributions of anything between 15 and 20 grand from Hurricanes financial surpluses for a short period.

@Winger yep as I said I not arguing one way or other, just it's not clear cut and can see both sides. It's not about accountants etc as such, but the right skills to manage what needs to be managed, I haven't really seen how other sports run their top bodies.
Corruptly?

The Canes and Lions will be fine, they are financially poor atm because they’ve just invested in the best sports training facility in NZ which is already bearing fruit not only for the Canes atm but the Phoenix and other teams (Lions championship in 2022) that train there.
I think you will find that the NZCIS is a privately owned organisation and all users there are tenants who pay for the use of the fabulous facilites. I have heard whispers that the costs of using the place might be rather expensive but to use the best you cannot expect to pay $2.00 Shop prices!

@NTA Although the referee is the sole judge of time and fact don't games over there that are blown up because of reasons you described have to go through a referee's report and a Rugby Union Judicial hearing? I know I had to attend two in my role as a Club Captain in Wellington because of that.
Probably a case of six of one and half a dozen of the other as red cards would also mean you have to complete a report and attend the judicial heading of the players involved. At least in your situation you could use the game was late starting and I had decided the correct number of minutes had elapsed so the game was not officially "called off" but simply the alloted time had expired! -
Goodness the Reds must be shite if they let the Force get off nil.

Thomas Waldrom doing an excellent job as the comments/play analyst on the radio commentary.

One of life's genuine characters and real good guy

@mariner4life I can understand your comment. Paying $1.48 for the away win I think your guys were up something like 28 - 02 and then leaked about 40 points (against Freo of all teams) before they scored again, I blew my dosh on them as well.

Brendon Pickerell retires
Rejoice.
Don't ever rejoice when a good ref retires. Bloody hard to find them , and I hope he enjoys next step.
Does this retirement mean Mr. Bredin moves up one step in the pecking order?

He must have got tired of being in a team that has been embarrassingly poor (as well as struggling big time financially) these last two seasons.
-
He could also double as the kicking coach as that is a big proportion of their "attack".

So much batting still to come and I’d love one of these guys to get at least a double ton.
Or, even better, both of them, by preferably about around the drinks break in the afternoon session.

Watch the squeals for 20 minute replacement red cards start now.
-
The fact that he has not been playing for the woeful, but injury ravaged, Scarlets sort of indicates he must be injured. And so does this
If he has been available before last week the fact that he has not been playing would mean he would be miles away from Wales selection.

Lucky she is still not in the country of her birth as the penalty for a conviction on that sort of charge used to ensure she was never physically able to do it again. It might even still do.

Really love to see the South African sides back in the comp, surely the addition of a few in the future isn't off the cards.
The Highlanders would love for that to happen too as it would give them a few more winable games, especially if some of the Aussie teams are given the heave hoe.

A beautifully written article by Norm Maxwell that encapsulates the very essence of what we love so much about our great sport.
