Difference of how they should play go wide at high tempo or a more restrained game reliant on set piece and drive up the middle before going wide.
    Coaches on different wave lengths.
Some coaches saying they don't have the players for one sort of game other coaches saying the same about the other alternative.
    Players a bit confused.

Is this argument still happening? Based on Penney's comments just after halftime I guess he was in the high tempo camp?

It worked against the Chiefs but the squad really does seem better suited to playing a tighter game. There's no quality issues in the pack

I think they could adjust the back three for a more of a kick chase game too. McLeod for whatever reason struggle on defence in the midfield.. however he got into the AB squad basically as a tidy winger who chased kicks hard. McLeod & Reece on the wings with McNicholl at fullback

Yeah I could see that working Hopeha at First five is a handbrake as well,No threat to the defence at all.

@Chris why did Goodman not stay given he would've got the HC job last year, was it about more about money or does he see himself as an assistant coach and wanted to further his development and try to become a world-class backs coach overseas?

More about development than money I would think he is not really money orientated.

Did Razor make any effort to convince him to join the All Black coaching ticket last year? I can't get my head around why Razor rates a guy like Jason Holland over other coaches like Goodman or Tony Brown?

    No idea about convincing Goodman.
Razor has a long relationship with Holland same with McDonald I guess he trusts them and see something others do not,Holland may turn out to be a great assistant coach but like many don't step up well to HC.

He did try to get Brown on board but as well all know he decided to stay loyal to Joseph and Japan .

@Chris That was 2019, what about last year when Brown was a free agent?

Razor had given his word to Holland etc when the change was going to be made in SA.
Razor would not go back on his word.

final question for you mate, who do you think will replace Ellison as an All Black assistant coach when Taimati inevitably takes the Crusaders top job ahead of the 2026 season?

It will be a role running the defence.
I don’t really know to be honest.
That job is there to be earned by someone over the next 18 months.

He came off the bench and played as a loose forward. I don't know how long we will have him. He has been in OZ playing S G Ball League for the Dragons. Not a good year so far for Melville but they will probably be still too good for the best Div 1 side at the end of the year. Our current 1st Five was recently at Melville. Haven't seen Harry Lafatuanai on any team sheets, hopefully his mates get in his ear to come back to Te Rapa.

@Tim A Crusaders player landed on his ankle. I don't know if it was the same ankle that he twisted in pre-season but I don't think it is too serious.

@antipodean Utah has recently approved a sales tax increase to contribute up to $900 million for a new arena or a remodeled arena for the NHL team/Utah Jazz. The Owner of the NHL team is the same guy who owns the Utah Jazz.

@Winger Was listening to him doing the comments during the radio commentary of one of the Hurricanes games earlier this year. Very insightful and astute in both his description and reasoning behind what had just happened and why along with predicting, accurately in a lot of cases, what was going to happen from a restart in play. Gave reasons why as well and was well worth listening too. Hopefully he will be in the chair tonight.

really feel like NZR are on a different planet, all the fluffy content "work" in other sports on the back of competitive and popular sports with engaged fan bases.... not independent of those things

Fineangonofo is brilliant, seemingly came from nowhere too.

I'd seen him play at 1st XV/age-group level, but that 2020 NZ Schools team never played a game due to covid. I'm not surprised he has a background in RL. Tito-Harris is another who played both codes.

@NTA side note, a set of jerseys from S-Trend was less than $1200 ($47.50 each) and apparently we got our 1's kit (25 jerseys) for free because we ordered all the other kit through them

i'm quite impressed, grip pattern on the chest, rubber around the hem and they set up an on line store for people to buy supports gear

I could understand an annual playoff between the Super and European Champions. I think they'd be interest in that but not really for this longer World Club tournament.

Yeah, you can certainly game the system.

The marquee rule allows NBL teams to give non-restricted players - Australian and Kiwi athletes - large deals but put them on those fixed cap hits, increasing the chance of staying below the salary cap.

I would think Gibbes will select a squad for the RC and then another for the WC. I'll be interested to see if the three NZ sevens players (Vai, Spencer, Tito-Harris) are involved in the latter.
