top effort that man. 5 time winner of championship.

he thanked all this family 'back home in England'..

MATE you're a kiwi! ha. did have an NZ flag behind him at least.

I'm not into motorsport by any stretch of the imagination - but defo something we should celebrate as kiwis.

Probably our most successful export sportsman?

He probably has the highest profile , Jason Wynyard would probably be up there in terms of world titles . From his wiki page

Along with this Jason Wynyard has earned a legendary status within the competitive woodchopping community by winning the Stihl Timbersports Series 14 times. The years in which hes won the title are: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

    Imagine the calluses.

Do fans really get that excited?

@stargazer yeah I have no idea to be honest. It will be interesting how it all plays out for him in the next 3-4 years. He’s obviously given up playing for Aussie 20s to learn his craft over here. Good kid who works bloody hard , so hopefully whatever way he goes he succeeds.

Voted for Matich, Kitto and Goodhue ( good half game ) and Robinson came close with his 20 minutes. But honestly could have named the whole forward pack for very dominant and physical display. Good work guys.

@taniwharugby agree with your comments. Jacobsen has been good for us. Matich is superb. Kara has always been an athlete and if the tight work is being done he comes into his own with his running game.

They were really niggley. That time on our line, Kara had been dragged off his feet into the ruck and was held in by Manawatu player. Another guy came on for clean out on Kara when ball was on other side of ruck. Then proceeded to carry on with it by pressing his forearm into Kara’s face after whistle. Douglas quite rightly pushes the guy off and scuffle ensued.

Also after Highland scored, their lock ( who was the main issue, on the roids? ) races in and starts pushing people in the face. Really random action because try was clean and nothing was happening.

The yellow card was nothing much but given penalties and slowing the ball down then maybe warranted.

When Hohaia scored, Matt Wright was taken out by fullback moving his line, and Ranger was held back closer to the line.

Something else: what are they going to do when they have engraved all the little shields on the Log? Are they again going to remove them all and replace them with smaller ones? I vaguely remember they've done that before? Obviously, we'll reach a point that the Shield is "full".

Tonight's stage is a flattish one with a climb to the finish - would seem like a good one for George to get into a break away and storm up the final climb. In theory, if he's got two minutes on the peleton at the base of a climb, he should be good enough to hold on - as long as he hasn't had to do too much work.

I gather he managed to get in a break a few days ago, but it got shut down.

Needs to do something - even if it's just helping Kruiswijk, because he's had a pretty disappointing ten days.

Sure - all through 2000 - 2003. We got up for a few but by and large there was a massive gulf in class.

Don't know how long Ash Dixon is out for. Had a leg brace on his right leg.

Brad Weber received the man of the match award.

Was a bit fearful when Gareth Evans was replaced; has always seemed to suffer an injury during a season, but looked okay at the aftermatch.

As with Counties Manukau last week, BOP did not appear at the aftermatch.

Sam McNicol has been out there the last two weeks helping the team with their pre-match drills.

The Shield Snorters won despite having had no outdoor practice at all this week because of the wet weather.

thought it was a bit shit sending Matthews on with time all but up on the clock!

Maybe he had been on the sideline for 5 minutes waiting for a break in play to get on, but from here it seemed stupid coming on for the lineout which they simply needed to catch and kick out to finish the game

    k lowen yes

    The Cambridge derby. 🙂

I played Sunday football against Lowen a few times and often ended up marking him. Surprisingly quick for his size.

I made the mistake of going to play touch, that turned into league, with a bunch of Hautapu guys as my mate played for them. I tried to tackle Lowen. I feel I know how Mike Catt felt when he tried to tackle Jonah.

    Best advice that!!!!

Never been able to come to terms with some the shit that harness racing seems to bring up with often what seems certain horses being allowed to just pass with ease or run uncontested.

Hope that have solid evidence and those involved are held accountable

What a joke!! I took my daughter to the game and she had no interest in any of the other so called mascots but was happy to receive a lolly from Hori and wants to get his autograph at the next home game. Great game by chase Taitai and good to see the srum go well with all the changes. SHAME we don't have a stadium that's up to standard tho.

My apologies for the biased slant of this report ,but I wrote it for the Northland Rugby Union website

    Northland Under 19 (24)Auckland Under 19 Development (20)

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog could easily have been one of the catch cries that was written on the changing sheds at the Northland Events Centre when Northland under 19s created there own piece of history by beating an Auckland Under 19 Development team for the very first time in a seeding round prior to the National Under 19 tournament

When playing Auckland age group teams staying in the fight is always a key point no matter the pedigree or the size of the opposition, and on that level Northland took the fight to their more illustrious and sizeable opponents who were expected to be too strong after going down to the top Auckland Under 19 side by one point the previous week.

Auckland started the game strongly scoring 3 unconverted tries in the opening 20 minutes and looked like they were capable of scoring more tries whenever they had ball.
However Northland worked out if they held on to possession for long periods they would create some scoring opportunities, the indiscipline of the Auckland team who kept giving away penalties within kicking distance to which promising player and goal kicker Nikau Graham from Kerikeri gladly accepted stepping up and nailing 5 penalties to keep Northland in the hunt at halftime going in at 15 all.

Auckland once again started the 2nd half strongly scoring their 4th try,but once again the try was unconverted.
Northland who were lead by skipper Sadius Cook Savage at no 8 and with halfback Wil Grant and first five Royce Sanderson playing to a solid game plan into wind they eventually got themselves in to field position forcing Auckland to infringe within kicking range
Graham stepped up again nailing another 3 penalties in the second half to set up a frantic and pulsating last five minutes

Northland held on to take the victory over Auckland 24-20 and the joy at end when the referee blew the final whistle from players and coaching staff was palpable

The Northland forward pack deserved a ton credit for standing up to a very big Auckland pack at breakdown and at scrumtime where they held their own ,something that head coach Mark Kapa and his assistants Tui Raeli and former Northland prop Bronson Murray will be extremely proud of.

It’s always hard to single out one particular player , but Nikau Graham returning from injury in his first start in a seeding game for 2018 landing 8 penalties out of 9 attempts in breezy conditions would be a real contender for player of the day.

A very good win for the Northland Under 19s which will give them plenty of confidence going into the Jock Hobbs Memorial National Under 19 Tournament in Taupo next Sunday 9th September 2018.

Loved the mongrel we showed. Yeah, we were making lots of mistakes, but we keeped defending with vigour and the two tries they scored we’re off errors and against the run of play.

As I said before, if we were much tidier we’d have put 30 past them.

That second forty we mucked in and kept them scoreless and they had the wind.

I agree with Chiefy, the bench added value. Our reserve props stood up well this time.

On to Otago in Dunedin now. This will be tough. Otago are very similar to us, but have two strike wingers who are on form. I think we’ll more than match them up front, just need to squeeze them out wide. We’ll go down there with confidence though. I think we’re a good shot if we minimise our errors.
