@MN5 that was also the first match between New Zealand and Australia since the last match between New Zealand and Australia.

How did you know that? I tried googling it but couldn't find an answer.

You've got to know the difference between googling it on Google and googling it on Google.

The Highlanders Blues is the worst rugby commentary team Ive heard in my entire life.

Zero insight, bullshit cliche after crappy rugby saying followed by SBW side line comments of absolutely nothing. It's like 3-4 guys at the pub talking about the obvious. "Mate", "he's got some pace", "he's strong", "the boys", "welshmen got through border control".

Absolute complete load of wankathon. Makes me miss Justin Marshall.

(In this thread to not detract from the game which is pretty good)

Massive call. Have you heard James McConie ?

    Chiefs MAAAAAAAANNNNAAAAA

Your new disdain of McOnie is laughable for such a big fan of that guy.

I wish they’d bring back his segments on sports cafe

Short google shows the Megapack business alone is protected to generate $10b profit a year, and that’s ignoring the wild protections for 2030. Tesla is more than just cars.

Comparison: Kobo are fine. They access libraries more (at least in Auckland), but harder to manage your own DRM-free ebooks - Calibre doesn't transfer, you have to export books and then copy them across manually.

Nah - I've had Kobos for years... and exclusively use Calibre. 99% of my ebooks are DRM-free, pulled out of the raging rivers of the WWW.
(Well - bit of a headache the first time setting it up - need to download the correct driver, and tweak some config - but not TOO much effort, and once it's running - it's all good.)
I've never tried a Kindle - I've got a perverse obsession with never supporting the biggest brands for any particular product. Cutting off my nose, in a lot of cases, I suspect.
But Kobo has always done the trick for me... I'm on about my third or fourth. Which suggests that yes, they do break down - but it's generally been after many years of heavy use and blatant abuse.
My current one is the (discontinued) LIbra H2O - waterproof, but I think they all are nowadays?... and all the other standard features one would expect. It's slightly too big to fit in some of my pockets - Swanndri inner chest pocket, and motorcycle jeans back-pocket... I'm kinda hoping I break it, so I can buy one of the new models - they've finally started producing smaller sizes again. But... it just takes all the abuse I throw at it.

To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known

This line hits hard - we pursue so many pointless things like war, money, and prejudice, when we could be putting our collective intelligence toward so much more.

The Vince stuff is insane. Listened to Jim Cornette and he reckoned it was the drugs and all the other shit that eventually effed with Vince's mind. Not that the guy wasnt a very odd fish to begin with. Very sad that this will be his legacy because he built something pretty damn extraordinary

Yeah but have a look at any interview with pretty much any wrestler from the 80s. They either don’t mention Vince or they go on about what an arsehole he is. None of this is really too surprising.

Not sure about that. Plenty who hate him but still have (Or had) huge respect. There's a difference between being an arsehole to wrestlers and sex trafficking.

I used Nord fulltime and it had a few issues. Like so slow I had to turn it off. And also, automatically selecting the wrong country (Vietnam. WTF). Where it was super slow

So gave Kaspersky a go. It's in a different league to Nord. Outstanding so far after using it for about a month. On both my phone and computer.

give it a go although i admit when these things come up im reminded how poor my memory can be!

What was your favourite moment of 2023?
our club quarter final against the rich club in town who had topped the table after the round robin...we beat them at home in the final round (they were that far ahead it didn't change them topping the table)...and then went to theirs the next week and snatched victory with a lineout steal inside our own 22...kick it out...whistle blows...crowd storms the field...beers are had

(id post a small video because i love watching it but i dont think we can)

What was the best thing you purchased in 2023?
55" Samsung Frame tv, all mounted, cables hidden etc...so good, rolling through an album (every 15min) of our travels over the years, love it

What was the best thing you watched/read/listened to in 2023?
this is where i'll really fall over because i feel whatever i put down TV wise....someone will say something and i'll regret my choice....so i'll go with "read" ...."Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir....couldn't put it down and have been considering reading again...which i almost never do

What are you looking forward to in 2024?
Can i say Dune 2?....other than that we have some trips planned including going right up into the arctic circle in Finland in january

i liked this thread so thought i would follow up my post with a couple of pics from our trip into the arctic circle

Just a quick update and thanks from my friend, Catherine.

"Did Mt Victoria, Te Papa museum, cable car, Zealandia, Botanic Garden, Lyall Bay, ferry across to Days Bay for a good walk. Amazing city, amazing memories. Please thank everyone for their suggestions - they were perfect!"

Thanks for all the input - was spot on.

And don't get me started on southern based media hyping weather events up here all to hell, making out like we are about to get wiped out, or the whole of cairns has been washed away, when nothing could be further from the truth.
They are already breathlessly on the ground in Townsville, ready to report on this human disaster. And using old footage to create the impression that it's all kicking off, when you can quite clearly see the reporter on the beach in a light breeze and no rain.
    Fuck off you vermin.

I don't know what planet you are on but it sounds pretty serious to me. 7news just mentioned 'Wayne' lost a whirlybird off his roof from the high winds. Get off your high horse and spare the guy a thought.
