Standout players in Mitre 10 cup

For Canterbury, Bird, Thompson and Goodhue are very impressive.
For Auckland, the Ioane brothers have their moments but lack consistency. Greg Pleasants-Tate is very consistent without being flashy, he's having a very good year. A much underrated player IMO.
I also like the BoP blindside flanker, Parete. He has the potential to earn a S18 contract.
If the NZ franchises look for a good goalkicker, they could have a look at Peter Breen (Northland). But he is slowish in attack (and defence). -

With a double barrelled surname and steady play he is due for a cap in the next year.

Speaking of double barelled surname, I have just watched a replay of Counties Manukau vs Wellington and I was really impressed by Walker-Leawere. Counties had massive forwards but he ran through them at ease. However, he looks very heavy so can't be lifted in the LO. That means his team needs an additionnal jumper in the backrow.
-
Michael Collins from Otago has toiled hard. Been impressed with some of ball carrying so far this season.
-
We must now be at the point where two adults with double-barrelled names are marrying and breeding together. Does this mean we might soon be having quad-barrelled names? I most surely hope so. Almost as a big fuck-you to parents who can't work their shit out. I think mixed names are the way to go. Umaga and Jensen = Jenaga. Much tidier.

So I hear everyone's favourite 6'8" great-white-hope younger Barrett hasn't yet signed for the Crusaders. Any chance of the Canes snaffling him with Halaholo going?
I hear he's pretty close to signing with the Canes.
Helps that they can offer him the 12 or 15 shirts, whereas we have Dagg and Crotty keeping him out of the team

It would be something Beauden and Jordie in a 10/12 combo.
I know there have been a heap of brothers that have played together for the ABs and Super/NPC, but how many have played in positions effectively side by side?
Bachops played a few tests together at 9 and 10
The Whetton's were a lock/blindside combo
Scooter and Thomas Waldrom played 7 and 8 for the CanesWhere's our quiz master?

Benson and Winston Stanley played a bit together in the midfield for Auckland/Blues.

Poor old Benson was capped just to keep the jersey warm for SBW before he even came to NZ. No disrespect to anyone who pulls on the fern I guess but by crikey him and Francis Saili were fucken token picks in the number 12 jersey if ever I saw them.
I always found it funny that Tony and Glen Marsh were second five and openside respectively despite being identical ( pretty sure they were exact same height and weight give or take a few millimetres and grams ). Both excellent players, I guess they both played in a similar fashion ie Tony hit a few rucks and Glen was a great runner with the ball.....
-
Benson got picked because Nonu got injured iirc and there was no real alternative. He even went on to say that to my brother while on the piss with him after getting picked that he was only picked by default hahaha.
Francis Saili was more of an eye on the future after showing glimpses of potential at super rugby level and only had Bundee Aki as competition at the time. It's fair to say that the selection of Saili was a shocker where he seemed to come out as a worse player for the experience.

@ACT-Crusader Colin and Stan Meads at lock.

Nonsense. Crotty can easily play @ 13. IMO 13 suits Crotty even better than 12. Fonotia's spot in the team is vacant and the Crusaders can offer Barrett a starting spot at 12 with weaker competition than there is at the Canes (Laumape). Havili doesn't set the world on fire and is just keeping the jersey warm until a better player comes along; Wainui nor Hunt have proven to be that player (yet). Don't think they will re-sign Fruean.
Would love to see Jordie at the Canes though. The prospect of Barrett and Barrett at 10 and 12 sounds really awesome. Can't they steal Scott as well and convert him into a 13 to make it a Barrett-Barrett-Barrett combo?

I think Robertson is pretty keen on Goodhue at centre. Who apparently is being chased hard out by the blues. I can see us losing both him and Barrett next year
-
@SammyC he is very keen to play for Northland (unsure why just now....) so I guess if the Blues are privy to any negotiations at that level they can make it even more attractive at Super level, although he is studying in Christchurch isn't he.

Can fully understand him wanting to play for his home province, good on him.
Yeah both him and Barrett are studying down here. I'm hoping that's enough to keep them, both have huge potential.
