I posted this in the interesting reads thread yesterday
When the tech becomes available we should load all of these dumpkopfs into a rocket and shoot them to Mars
Haha love it
Is fluoride a secret tool of the government designed to turn us into sheeple?
Fluoride is a safe, cheap and effective way of strengthening teeth for people of all walks of life. If it is a way of controlling our minds then it doesn’t work very well because people hate on the government all day every day.
Why do people believe that fluoride is evil?
It was a plotline in the movie Doctor Strangelove that people latched onto! There have been no studies, literally zero, that show any major health issues with toothpaste or water when fluoridated to appropriate levels. I think the people who believe that think they’ve uncovered some sort of secret global conspiracy, much like the other idiots who are against vaccines and other proven science. They are fools who should be sent to Mars to stop scaring other people.

As a kid who grew up with rainwater, my teeth are significantly less healthy than my kids who grew up on town water.
Part of that is my shit brushing. But part of it is a lack of flouride.
Same here, I spend an extortionate amount every year on my teeth every year. Tank water and being lazy too.

gah fuck! the flouride debate!! A few years ago the Qld government, in their infinite wisdom, delegated this responsibility to individual councils. Cairns' council promptly got rid of it. Because they were fucking idiots.
Putting the flouride back in has now been flagged. I believe the state government will pay for it. But of course, because it's a council matter, this has become a fucking public debate. Letters to the editor every fucking day is full of outright lies about poisoning the water; neurotoxin; just be better parents; stop drinking softdrink; in my day... my fucking blood boils. Every single reply from actual medical professionals is shouted down with winger-esque conspiracy talk, and links to bogus studies.
A group of 150 local doctors, dentists, and professors from the local uni put together a submission detailing the benefits of flouride in the water, and debunking all the myths. The fucking council over-rode their own fucking procedures and basically dismissed the submission as not important enough to be entered in to the "debate"
The loud vocal hippy minority fuckwits are going to win, because the Council are too fucking scared to make a stand. Fuck these fluffybunnies. What happened to critical thought, and why is no one capable of it any more.

As a Hamiltonian who did vote in the local body elections, I'm not taking any responsibility for this.
I live on the other side of the river so I am in a different ward, and wouldn't have voted for her anyway. She only got elected once the mayoral vote was finalised as she was the next highest polling candidate in the west ward.
This article is on the front page of the local newspaper so will get some traction. There is a lady (I won't mention her name) who is a very vocal leader of the anti-flouride cause and is regularly trying to get attention. Henry is obviously another nutjob like her.
And as someone with a scientific background - fuck you!!

The good dentists of Hamilton will be measuring up spaces to park up their new boats if this ever goes through
Fuck it, why should only Tron dentists cash in on their inhabitants' stupidity? I think I will open up a branch practice in the middle of town!

Stanc for your own Council on a ticket of non-flouridation.

There's a conflict of interest, and besides I don't want to be a money grabbing scumbag, there are a few of those in our profession sadly. Besides who wants to sit in meetings with those beatniks?

Dogmeat, you have an obligation to stand with a platform like that. You'd get my vote!

People.. including myself.. generally have no idea what local politicians stand for.
True. In Siggi's case, she's been bombarding the Letters to the Editor for years with this sort of stuff. It's seven years since I lived in the Tron but I remember her far too well...

Smarty pants scientists.
That alone makes me want to throat punch the woman. And FUCK STUFF for giving braindead fuckfaces a platform when they should instead be used for paint gun testing.
Also, it kills me when actual smart people don't vote. That is how happy clappy weirdos with shitty agendas get elected. With my voting papers I got a full page bio for each candidate outlining their background, quals, focus etc, so assumed each district did the same.
-
we got fuck all local body info. a pamphlet with a paragraph on each candidate which read like a dating website excerpt.
so i went to their websites to find out their policies. nothing. seriously nothing. they all talked themselves up and had cheap digs at other candidates, and the incumbents had bullshit slogans about stability and proven records, while the others had shitty catchphrases about change.
so i didn't vote, even though i wanted to and was prepared to spend time on making an informed decision. what a pack of fluffybunnies. fuck it made me angry. still does.
