That was eye-opening stuff. I'm not convinced those Iraqi guys are exactly "Special" Forces but they've got fairly large balls. The commander ("Steel" - fucking love that) seems genuine enough, but it's a shit situation.
So much distrust and suspicion. You wonder why they don't just get all the civvies out, then think it might just give ISIL an easy way to smuggle fighters out of the city.
Note that they still call them "Daesh".
The battle is still ongoing for Mosul as they try to squeeze ISIL out of what is effectively the last stronghold in the country.

@NTA but really mate it HAD to be bullshit because it made out that Muslims were hating and fighting ISIS and we all know that ISIS is a synonym for Islam...
Yeah. It kind of fights the fear of the ignorant that Islam is this one huge tsunami of religious hatred that is just waiting to burn down the housing commission shacks in Mt Druitt, and rape and kill the slappers down at the local leagues club.

Still? Daesh is the preferred term of many western countries. There was a lot of angst about within official circles around the use of any variation of IS as they all incorporated the word 'state' which conveyed some form of official standing. There was annoyance that the media had latched on to the ISIS/ISIL/IS acronyms and made them the common form of reference.

YouTube has Ricky Jay and his 52 Assistants cut into four parts. While not strictly a documentary (it's a filming of his Broadway show), Ricky spends a lot of his time recreating historic card tricks and explaining the origin of them and their creators.
He is the best card magician alive

The Social Dilemma, on netflix
Bit of a freak out that one. I guess lots knew about the ads and capturing our screen attention but the consequent breakdown in common truth emanating from the silicon Valley business model is very concerning, and evident right now.
A big change in the western world since 2010.
Basically 20 year technological information interventions that our million year old brains aren't equipped to deal with.Watching this doco is like learning CPR, you might not like or use it, but you're better off knowing how it exists and how it works.

I'm bumping this because it's pissing me off that such likeminded people are getting such different views of things.
This documentary confirms and expands on what we've suspected for a while.
And I think these pricks in the doco are a big part of this current morass.
And surely it's a must watch for you guys with kids, to see what they're up against. Incredibly telling that the creators of phone influence never let their own kids use them.
-
It's a must watch, absolutely. I just saw something from Channel 4 related to it - check the US politics thread. Naturally, they are anti Trump, so there is no discussion of Hillary's faults or whether the dems were knee deep in personal information about individual voters, but I know that it reinforced the idea of whether having any social media is a good idea or not....

Has anyone watched the doco called 'Dealt' about Richard Turner? I rate it a lot watched it a while ago. I won't give away the theme but hes impressive.
