Referendum on recreational cannabis use: Y/N?

Any idea what labour are going to go public with on Friday before the break so the public will have got over it by the time they go back to work next year?
One time I'll fully buy into @Baron-Silas-Greenback's general cynicism about politicians - parties of all colours everywhere do that
Interestingly, quite a few bits of big news appeared yesterday amid the build up to Christmas...
- 'Spying'
- Cannabis referendum
- Proposed immigration changes
... possibly other stuff that I've missed too

They all do it I agree , they don’t all let drug dealers the pm is linked to stay in the country though . I’m thinking maybe they’ll release the texts to give their shills in the media a few weeks to minimise them

Good valedictory speech from Chris Finlayson. He used to say if he ever actually won his seat he would ask for a recount
Thanks for posting it - I enjoyed the read!
I especially acknowledge Annette's husband Ray, who would sit through campaign meetings in Island Bay with a beatific smile on his face as Paul Tolich, Ken Findlay, and the rest of the Island Bay Labour gang yelled at me. I once told Ken Findlay in 2014 to sit down and shut up—I always had a special rapport with constituents. After that meeting, he accused me of being a CIA agent. A few days later, I was appointed Minister in charge of the GCSB and the SIS, so perhaps dear old Ken wasn't totally deluded.

@jegga great share. That was a cracking speech from Findlayson - a guy that definitely gets the nuance and relationship side of politics and governance. Really sad to see a guy of that quality leaving.
He did good while he was there, settling with Tuhoe was his Everest imho

Best part was the end:
In 2005, Michael Cullen said in the Address in Reply debate that he wasn't convinced of "this sort of Latinate habit of everyone kissing each other after every maiden speech", and I agree. It's a dreadful habit. I think the same principle applies to valedictories, so Mr Speaker, fellow members of the House, that's all from me. If anyone needs a lawyer in the future, don't bother me. All the best. Goodbye.
And he just simply turned around and walked out the door!

Even though at this point, I am only in the medical use camp, having a referendum (however costly) is why we are a democracy.
I bet we wont hear the same people bleating about the cost of the flag referendum complaining about this one, that I expect will cost significantly more.
I expect it will be soon before the next election Jacinda will announce a surprise pregnancy.

Liked this too
"I say to Andrew Little that this is the best job in Government. Don't worry about setbacks. Just when it seems a negotiation has gone all wrong something very good can and invariably does happen. I mean who knows, Sonny Tau could decide to go and live in Iceland!'
Last week Findlayson said "I would say that Sonny Tau is a waste of space but that would be rude"
For all the lefts monopoly on the Maori seats it is two National Ministers who have done the most to settle historic injustices

Doug Graham was the other one?

Insanity but hardly surprising from our virtue-signaller-in-chief
Good shit , that should fuck off Winstons demographic . Particularly since Bridges said he won’t honour it . If enough NZ first voters are alive and not suffering from dementia in two years national might be able carve off a chunk of them over this.
I’m starting to change my opinion of Bridges , maybe he just looks good in comparison to Ardern ? Then again a nutless monkey could look good as a prime ministerial option in comparison to her .

@jegga TBF the last few times I have seen him interviewed seems to have come across better, a little more authoritive as well...maybe the Jamie-Lee saga gave him a pair?
Agree , that was my thoughts too. He could be growing into the role which will take a few kickings along the way.
How much would it irritate labour and our other woke factions if national gave us the first woman and then the first Maori pm?
