The ABs have a big problem at 10. Right now we're reliant on Beauden's confidence being high, and his 'X' factor plays coming off.
I am far from convinced that is going to win us tight tests come the pointy end of the RWC. At least one of those games, if not all three, will be an in the trenches fucking war.
DMac... Yeah nah.
Mo'unga... untested. Is used to getting a free ride behind a pack that is three times better than the next best. How will he handle it when the AB pack is getting battered by the monstrous Irish?
Might be a discussion worthy of it's own thread but it's a big concern at the moment.
Oh true? Fuck, like, literally no one has noticed that over the past year and a bit.
Well now I'm worried
Snarky fluffybunny. If we didn't debate the same shit over and over we'd run out of shit to talk about pretty quickly.
I was thinking the other day we look a bit unsettled in the 6 jersey.
A bit left field but I reckon there's a bloke at the Blues who could cover 6 and 8 if given a chance.
I like your thinking but SBW hasn't played much at 6 or 8 has he?

Yup at toulon he started at 6. Their owner was a visionary.

Noticed this ref is calling tackle release before tackle complete. If you released him player would be off. Seems strange
I've noticed this in other games too.
-
@Nepia said in Hurricanes vs Highlanders:
The reffing is pretty average in this match. To go with all the ones already mentioned Lam just pulled a player out of the way to get the ball when he almost scored.
It was pretty obvious huh? I'd like to think they'd have reviewed if had touched down.
But ref should have got that in real time.

Was Laumape onside when BB kicked the ball?

I don't think so, and I'm canes.
I'll take it tho, after all the lost shit before
Well onside.

Nisbo didn't work on mobile, unless you're careful
I'll be Captain Obvious then.

@mariner4life Yep, his passing is terrible.
Absolutely bombed that.
It's because he lacks "time" so panics and rushes stuff. He's just good enough.
Que? Missing "not"?

@Canes4life said in Hurricanes vs Highlanders:
@canefan The three weaknesses in that Canes starting pack were the two journeyman props (Eves and Toomaga Allen) & Blackwell. Blackwell still isn't big enough to be a lock and I hope he is replaced by that Safa lock moving forward. Mitchell has impressed me though and he will only get better. His playing style is like a younger and slightly shorter Sam Whitelock.
The pack will scare no one. But we've never had the most dominant pack in the comp, ever. All we can hope for is to get as close to parity as possible to give our backs a chance to win the game

Yeah I know, I'm using finger sweeping typing, when I did nisbo (without picking individual letters) the in built dictionary gave me Tony. And I didn't check
-
@Canes4life said in Hurricanes vs Highlanders:
@canefan if the Canes get parity the odds of us winning sky rocket. We just need to find 3 or 4 hard nosed props and a couple big boffa locks and we will be away laughing.
So basically you are saying we need a tight 5 that doesn't suck....

Re - Jordie I personally think now with the benefit of hindsight ,
Too much too young has been thrown his way , in the way of glowing media attention before he had hardly played a game , selection in the ABs very young etc etc
Maybe he would’ve been better off being allowed to ease into things , step by step , do his apprenticeship gradually, and allowed to tick the boxes one at a time , in the way most young players do.
Might be wrong but got a feeling the abs may cut him loose this year and allow him to go back and do that

Yea. I thought that would have been obvious given my earlier posts

He also played the house down on debut against the Lions which took the hype to the next level. He just needs to go back to basics for a while and make sure he's nailing the core parts of his role, the other stuff will come naturally with confidence.

He was excellent for the Canes vs Lions as well. Iirc he ended up playing at 10.
I think he's a tremendous talent but he's not a 15. He's also still very young and is perhaps struggling to merge his natural instincts with the discipline and focus required of a top professional player. Some players are brilliant in their first season and then fall off the radar. I hope JB isn't one of them. I really hope he heads back south and re-establishes that midfield partnership with Goodhue. That would be the best both for him and NZ rugby.
-
Good for NZ rugby? Hyperbole much?

You've gotta wonder if he's going to be Ice Mk 2. I don;t think so, as he is not a shy PI kid, but part of a very useful bunch of rugby players - but yeah hype + position changes is not great for a young player trying to establish themselves.
IIRC there was also talk of Ice's best position being 12...
