@Virgil yeah my uncle was complaining that oz was getting more info. Till he worked out there would have been a number of strong rationale for that.
Fuck, no chance of waking up and it being a nightmare. Have been so impressed with the police, health care team, the PM and cricket NZ. White is talking with Devlin on radio sport at the moment.
Feel really sorry for the Bangles cricket team, if it wasn’t for a late running press conference they would have been inside when the shooting began. They saw the victims they only just missed the attack

Apologies in advance, there’s too much info to sift through, but how-and-where was the psychopath apprehended? Did he expire all his ammo and surrender??

Details will all come out. there is a vid of them pulling him over and arresting him, I'm sure another ferner will share.

Stuff and the Herald both have videos of someone being dragged from a vehicle that appears to have been rammed by a cop car, it's front wheel still spinning, and "detained". May have been accidentally bumped by a cop's weapon (which may explain an apparent cut around his face reported following a court appearance).

Thanks, I visited Stuff and saw it. Nerves of steel on the cops. If it was me I would have assumed there was a good chance he was armed and ready to fire.
I saw another video interview there with a neighbour who said there were four people in that car earlier, presumably the other three suspects. Do we know anything about them yet?
-
Can't be - one person was taken in to custody then released pretty early (they took a gun to go get their kids), and the other two (a couple) were taken into custody at a cordon (they may be connected but it's not sure yet and how).

That utter fuckstick called terrorist attacks a "perpetual irritant" yet now he gets all emotional? Fucking disgraceful hypocrite. Only gives a shit when his own "people" get slaughtered.

Is he a celeb in Oz? Never heard of him but then again I’d watch 7 days before I watched the Project....

I'm not watching that video, but the way some people on the left are using this as a stick to beat the right with is fucking horrible. Those same people rightly say "all Muslims are not responsible for Islamic terror" but can't seem to apply the same standard consistently.
People on the right are also calling this out as an absolutely despicable act, because obviously not everyone on the right is an extremist, so using broad sweeping terms like "the right" when talking about fringe radicals only furthers the divide, which is exactly what this scumbag wants.
Both sides are guilty of this rhetoric when talking about the left, the right, Muslims, Christians etc. I really wish we could all be more careful with our language when talking about extremists. The majority of us are really great people, and I really want to see all of us decent folk come together and unite as a result of this, not only because that is the only way forward, but also because it is exactly what this piece of shit and others like him don't want.
Sorry if this is too political but when every man and his dog is trying to score points it's hard not to comment.
-
@No-Quarter yep, plenty of political BS you could be rolling out about this terrorist act from all sides of the spectrum, but that helps no one.
Hopefully, NZ as has been the case in the past, can lead the world in how we respond to this and with the ways we now act to try and make our country safer for those that call it home in the future

Any chance we can we have a separate political thread for this in the politics section in case this goes like all the other politics threads?
I am guessing yes. But the coverage is without a doubt political, which makes it extricably linked. Be nigh on impossible to do it fairly. Do we seperate duscussion of motive? Gun control?
You can only call the guy an evil fluffybunny so many times before you need to look deeper and how and why he was -

Agreed. We have had a couple of political posts deleted after all.
It seems that the information about the incident itself is pretty much known. So I'd suggest cutting from a couple of pages ago and moving to the Politics thread.

It’s much different than say 9/11 which was a shock but I was always too far removed. This feels much more personal despite being thousands of kms away.
But, I don’t really want to get involved in the usual politic stuff in this place. All good, I’ll just exit the thread when the Politics kicks off in earnest.

I think we will try to keep it mostly focussed. I see your point.

unfortunately acts of terror such as this are very likely strongly linked to someones political (or religious) ideals, so unfortunately it is inevitable some politicising will happen, but the fact there has been to date next to none from our Politicians is great (that I have seen at any rate)
