Movie review thread...

Yesterday. Cute comedy about a failed musician who has an accident, when he wakes up he is the only one to remember the Beatles and their songs 4 living John Lennons out of 5 Abbey Roads
Stuber. Action comedy about an uber driver whose car gets commandeered by a tough muscle bound cop. Lots of in jokes here, like Collateral with a sense of humour. 3.5 rescued dogs out of 5 spinster classes

For those with young'uns (or big kids) the latest animated Grinch movie is great.

Zombieland Double Tap: Fun sequel getting mostly shitty reviews ... critics are idiots sometimes.
Good to hear as I really liked the first one, it also made my list of movies that critics hated but audiences loved so was keen to see it.

Pretty much can pick movies by low scores by critics these days
I remember the good old days where a critics job was to evaluate a movie on its merits...back then a journalists job was to report the news.
Simpler times.

I refuse to look at reviews anymore. Too many not so hidden agendas and not enough actual critiquing. Dave Chappelle etc..
Scary Stories to tell in the dark. Not overly original. Some mild scares but not as good as I thought it would be. Save yourself some time and watch IT 2 instead.

Ditto - really enjoyed the first one. Well written, well acted, well directed. Funny and entertaining.

The terminator film doesn't look like its doing very well.
Which usually as usual had lead to some amusing trolling
"I need your dress, your heels, and your menstrual cycle"
Fem-man-hater: Woke Fate"Judging by the age of its stars, it should be set in a nursing home and they're fighting respirators etc.

Apollo 11 the documentary is fab. Was a remarkable feat IMO, the physics and calculus that would have gone into that is amazing. Timing the runs in and out of orbit, getting the Eagle and Colombia to hook up again and then the 30s or so of blackout at re-entry when no-one knows if the astronauts have survived. Fantastic documentary.

Has anyone seen The Irishman with De Niro, Pacino and Pesci? Please tell me it is good as I really want it to be

It's only 3 1/2 hours long so there's bound to
be something in there to like -
Balloon was worth a look as was Parasite and the Keeper.

The King on Netflix
Well written, directed and acted. Certainly a feather in the cap of Joel Edgerton.

@antipodean We watched that last night. Was a good watch. I couldn't believe the reality of that beheading. CG is amazing.
Really was a brutal time to live.
My mind did drift when they were in France to wonder if people 'holidayed' in the French riveria or on the Med in other parts.
It's hard to picture relaxing and happy times in those types of docos/movies

I watched The King today. Great story, great cast, really captured the dark moodiness of medieval England. About as historically accurate as Braveheart, though.
(Lol re the beheading. I was SURE they were going to fade to black/cut away when the blade came down. Nope! See ya head.) Other part I thought was really well done was the battle scenes at Agincourt. Just showed how shitty and difficult armor and chainmail back then was to move in. In a bog, pretty much useless.

Dolemite is my name.
Eddie Murphy at his best. Wesley Snipes was excellent as a pompous asshole which isn't a stretch.
The supporting cast was average. Very good actors but not utilised as well as they should have been. Bob Odenkirk, Craig Robinson & Keegan-Michael Key are great talents underused in this movie. Although the latter was clearly playing it straight for a change.
But otherwise this was loads of fun, especially if you are familiar with the source material.
I don't know if Murphy deserves an Oscar nod, like some have suggested, because he is really only playing a character we have seen in many other movies he's made.
