Thank fuck it's not just me....if it's longer than 10 minutes it's pretty rare I'll watch it.

You were saying it’s too long but you listen to podcasts that are longer than that don’t you?

@jegga correct. While I'm traveling usually. I don't tend to hold my phone in front of me while driving or walking...
Good call, the people that do that are awful . I play YouTube through my car stereo to listen to though .

I'm too dumb to figure that and probably not going to come back to an hour long video which I had a passing interest in when I have podcasts in a podcast app that I'm actually interested in.

@Rembrandt luckily we’ve got 20,000 more cops being recruited then!
I blame Khan and Corbyn.
Well lets not forget May and ...Deans.

No more tv license?
Fuck.
Best value TV in the world.
£154.00 per year on threat of prosecution if you don't pay.
Netflix and equivalent optional subscriptions are roughly £108.00 per year and maybe don't appear to be propaganda to certain sections of British society.
I'd love to see viewing numbers vs salaries for some of their shows, I understand their news have dropped 1/3rd of viewers since 2012. https://www.statista.com/statistics/290866/bbc-news-viewers-reached-quarterly-uk/

I agree with @MiketheSnow. It's great value TV. My UK Netflix costs me a £11.99 a month, or a tenner a year less than the licence fee. Sure there are some programmes I don't agree with on the Beeb and many I don't watch at all. That's no different to any subscription service. I pay my licence and I'm fine with it.

Not going to happen. Well, not the way The Sun is describing.
TV broadcasting in the UK is primarily DTT (Digital Terrestrial Transmission) through an aerial. That would require distribution of an encoded transmission and a decoder box to every subscriber.
Not only that but transmission of BBC services is not the same through the country so any subscriber system would have to be priced based on what you can receive.
The alternative is to force everyone to satellite or internet which isn't going to happen. The Beeb does need a shake up and cull though and some of the salaries paid to 'stars' is stupid. They cite that they need to pay a competitive salary or lose the stars but aren't reliant on ratings for advertising anyway.
-
I'd say that Sun article has either deliberately mis-interpreted something or the writer is just a wind up merchant (or both).
Here's a very recent speech from the DCMS Sec https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/nicky-morgans-speech-on-the-future-of-media-and-broadcasting
And an interesting article about the Beeb and streaming services
-
@taniwharugby yeah can't remember what was on the beeb when you were still here, but it's about the last place I'd turn to find a movie...

I’d pay 154 pounds a time to watch Andrew Neil interview with John McDonnell right after the exit poll again.
I think that yougov did a poll where it found the same % of left and right thinkers thought the BBC was skewed to the other side. Which should tell you they get it about right.
