Coronavirus - Overall
-
My bro and his family were due to move to LA. He was going first on Tuesday to start getting them set up but that isn't happening now. We had a yarn last night and he's going to push his ticket back to April - just to see what the state of play will be before making longer term plans. Who knows what travel restrictions will be in place by then.
Meanwhile a work colleague has just reached Dubai on the way to the UK for a family trip... unsure if they second guessed going as they missed the latest NZ news. Now they'll have an extra 14 days of isolation (at least) once they return, and who knows what their trip will be like or if they will be able to make it back. Suspect they caught a case of wishful thinking but hope things go well for them.
All the best to the family and friends of our Fern community - hope thing work out for anyone in transit or trying to get back to NZ.

A long read but one of the better I have seen so far, I don't think the author has any expertise but what he puts together makes sense. Makes NZ look good for taking early action.

@Paekakboyz Yeah for sure, China has shown the blueprint, to think you can do it any other way is probably naive. Italy has shown the worst outcome at the moment if you don't act quickly.

Oh, the irony...
Mexico is considering closing its border to stop Americans bringing coronavirus into its country as US case count passes 2,000.
This would be a perfectly valid thing to do from a health perspective as in Mexico there have only been 16 confirmed cases and no deaths.
They should build a wall to at least keep those disease ridden Californians out too, pandemic or no pandemic!
Mexico will be most worried about the US college students going there for spring break.
Not to worry, someone built a wall to keep them out didn't they?

Anyone actually believe those China figures, just 11 new cases yesterday?

This site is worth checking for up to date stats.

Conspiracy theorists probably say no. But I'd say there is no good reason for them to lie now, and from what I read in the article about Taiwan they allowed Taiwanese observers in pretty early. And while they didn't necessarily fully disclose they allowed them more than enough access for the Taiwanese to come to the correct conclusions. Factories are starting to re-open which is a good sign, and based on anecdotal reports from people I know people are still restricting their movements over there

Couple of things.
1/ I assume this is racist?
2/ Of course it is justified if numbers are trhe, but if you trust those Mexican numbers I have a bridge to sell you -

I'm interested to know how Germany have such few deaths given the number of cases? Healthy population, good healthcare?
I hear they've popped those infected into a goods train wagon and sent it off to Poland. Worked for them before (for a bit).

Don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist but if those numbers are true the level of lockdown must be insane to bring it down like that.
Have heard some pretty over the top stuff that I don't know i believe in how bad it is over there and not being shared.
They have plenty of reason to lie. That kind of governmental system relies on control and if they look like they have lost it there are all sorts of problems.
Will wait and see but I am sceptical.

Strange eerie feeling here ,
Go into a supermarket , shelves are empty , people look worried ,
a clam before the storm , except we dont really know if the storm hits , how severe it will be ,
The conspiracy theorists say , they want everyone nervous and afraid ,
well they have done a good job of that, thats for sure

I'm shocked a never Trumpet hates Trump and finds fault with his handling. Shocked I tells ya.... I am annoyed I read that, it is so incredibly dishonest.
People are the worst. On the news last.. In the same article they literally blamed Trump for overreacting at the same time as blaming for not taking it seriously enough. The media suck donkey balls.
I thought it was pretty fair. Clearly doesn't blame him for creating this, but is highly critical of his handling.
I don't see how you could really argue otherwise but I'm happy to see you try. For me, everything that has come out of his mouth has been a disaster.

The article is more about how his behavioural traits are totally unsuited to a crisis of this sort. Well explained.
I don't agree with the title or the last line as people be people and competency is not a facet of Trumps presidency that has changed peoples perception/like/dislike of him previously.Did Trump disband the White House task force that existed for these happenings? Yes, it seems so.
Did that lose the expertise and advice that would have kicked into gear earlier? Undoubtably.
As the article states. You can't get that period back. Speed of action is a big element in flattening the curve. -

Seriously you think it is fair because they don't blame him for creating the virus?
