I'm not having a dig here and am no fan of Trump, but have learned to question what he's reported to have said and what he actually said. In most cases it bears scant relation to reality.
It's not a big deal, no worse than the flu
What he actually said: "Last year 37,000 Americans died from the common flu. Nothing is shut down, life and the economy go on... Think about that."
2 It's not a big deal, we got this
3 It's all Europe and China's fault, but we still got thisCan't find these quotes. He did say this on Europe and China though: ""We made a life-saving move with early action on China. Now we must take the same action with Europe."
4 We have enough tests for everyone (not enough by a mile)
What he actually said. "The US has done a very good job on testing. When people need a test they can get a test."
As I said, he isn't my cup of tea, and we don't need hiis bombast right now, but Trump Derangement Syndrome in the media seems as real as Covid-19....

I'm hoping that this doesn't mean NZ is setting itself up for an overload of cases in the main flu season July/Aug.....
...it could be wiser to let it spread around NZ during the summer time, to let more people build up immunity to it (and I say this while concerned about my older relatives)....

A question, probably for @Tim Does the test for the virus tell whether or not you've had it and are no longer contagious? Or is it simply a yes you have it/no you don't result?

Is it just me or is every attention seeking c-grade celebrity telling the world they've been tested?
is anyone else old enough to remember this guy being a really poor singer on NZ variety shows in the 70s ?
Was always difficult to warm to him years later on Aus television with that already in my memory

had a friend arrive in NZ from Aus just prior to the deadline, said there was zero screening of any sort done...he will be self-isolating anyway.

Same as in the US when they annouce the deadline, but don't do it straight away. So strange, if you are going to ban travel from a country, why don't they do it from the annoucement?

Ardern said the Government would "know" if people were refusing to self-isolate, and if people wanted to contact Healthline to inform them of people who weren't compliant, "they can do that".
I thought they said the GCSE didnt monitor people

Yeah same. Had mates come in last night and their flight was to arrive post midnight but got in early so they have no need to isolate and no questions on arrival.
Additionally, I have been speaking to a client who says they are working from home this week after arriving back from aus on the weekend. They are self isolating as they met with someone in Aus who has since tested positive for clovid19. They been told they dont need to be tested here as they are deemed low risk....WTF!

Wow RBNZ cut OCR by 0.75% to 0.25%. Have said will hold for 12months and will also delay the new capital rules for banks
What does that mean in practical terms?
The hold with 12months should give some certainty that we wont have a negative interest rate environment in the next 12months. Its a pretty bold move to cut it that much right now IMHO and then to send such a signal
They major NZ banks have all responded quickly saying they will pass on the full 0.75% cut to their variable lending rates but no move on fixed rates yet and that's what the majority of their lending is currently at.

Don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist but if those numbers are true the level of lockdown must be insane to bring it down like that.
Have heard some pretty over the top stuff that I don't know i believe in how bad it is over there and not being shared.
They have plenty of reason to lie. That kind of governmental system relies on control and if they look like they have lost it there are all sorts of problems.
Will wait and see but I am sceptical.

Anyone actually believe those China figures, just 11 new cases yesterday?

This site is worth checking for up to date stats.
Conspiracy theorists probably say no. But I'd say there is no good reason for them to lie now, and from what I read in the article about Taiwan they allowed Taiwanese observers in pretty early. And while they didn't necessarily fully disclose they allowed them more than enough access for the Taiwanese to come to the correct conclusions. Factories are starting to re-open which is a good sign, and based on anecdotal reports from people I know people are still restricting their movements over there,
There seems to be a suggestion that the disease can be stifled with isolation, but that is a fool's paradise, because once you ease off it will come back with a vengeance. I suppose the bet could be that in meantime a treatment is uncovered.
So very difficult to draw conclusions.
