@Paekakboyz I called my Dr (who I have struggled to get appointments 7 days out) at 9am about a non-CV19 issue, but one I wanted to speak to a Dr about, they said I was 38th in the queue for call back, got a call back about 11.30.
I'd take a 2.5hr call back any day of the week right now

Question: Can your family members pick you up from an NZ airport?
Mrs CF's boss picked his son up from the airport yesterday and put him in isolation at their house. Drove two cars to the airport, he drove one home by himself. He is living downstairs in guest quarters while the rest of the family life upstairs

@taniwharugby yep, we have a confirmed casualty, our economy.
It's obviously sub-optimal. But outside of construction I don't really see a major sector (>10% of GDP) that wasn't already crippled.
Obviously there are flow on effects to real estate and financial sectors if the gaps can't be filled and families don't have money for a wage - but still I would worry if they keep things going and try to ride the wave with half measures that the uncertainty in things like real estate, professional services and finance would do almost as much damage.

Speaking to him, he thinks a vaccine will be about 6 months in the making. Have we heard any better than that? I've seen stuff all in the media around the vaccine for this.
That would be amazingly fast. (There is still no vaccine for SARS.) Which leads to two questions:
Is that when it is in clinical trials or finished clinical trials, and how long to ramp up to full availability?
What efficacy would it have? 50% protection?
Dude, you need his number as I would have no idea how to answer any of those.
fucking up your game! we all need to slip outside our comfort zone in these times mate!
He's a very straight down the line guy. Without being a knowitall he does seem to know a lot. A small example was, I remember when Dad was dying and the hospital didn't want to release him but Chris said he would look after him if he was allowed to die at home. He knew hours out, nearly to the minute when he would die and I thought that was amazing (at the time). Just walked out and said Dad will be dead at 6:30. He was right.
If any of us has a pain and we told him about it, trying to self diagnose, he would tell us that if we have 'that', we may as well say our goodbyes now. That taught me to stop self diagnosing
Anyway, I try not to bore him with my trivial questions any more
I have a feeling @Tim and him could have quite a conversation about it.

@Hooroo Vaccines will be terrific — but that’s months (maybe many?) down the road.
What we have — right now — is the technology and kits to test for the virus. Governments are ordering factories to mass produce masks — where are the test kits, and where are they getting distributed?
Called my physician today and was told, sorry, we have none, and don’t know whether we will get any. How’s that for reassurance?
It seems incredible to me that Mark Zuckerberg, NBA players, NHL players, presumably all healthy males in their twenties, they can get tested at the snap of a finger, but those of us who are primary caregivers to parents with cancer and wives w/ Type 1 diabetes are told there aren’t any. Get that shit manufactured yesterday, not next month.

The govt has completely and utterly fucked up its step up to stage 4, the guidance is woeful and haphazard, property lawyers and moving companies have no idea what they are legally obligated to do or not do.
people are in major legal and financial jeopardy in regards to not moving house and not being able to offer vacant possession.
Before closing down non essential business the one thing they needed to do was detail exactly what is essential. Idiot govt panicked. -
@Baron-Silas-Greenback Moving companies should still be functioning

Does anyone know if there are any masks available in NZ? I've had a look online but can't see any. I'd really like to wear one when I go out and about to get food. They're proven to make a difference in stopping the spread so I'd like to think the government is organising as many as possible?
The Asian countries that have managed to somewhat contain the virus have issued them to their entire populations.

@No-Quarter DIY stores?

Hardware stores will close. But the Warehouse has announced they will stay open so they sell a little bit

No provision. I reckon a bunnings style dust mask would work fine. Just a comfort issue

Nah, they have jumped the shark on that one,. It isnt up to them it is up to the govt and then legal advice. If that company Crown packs up someone and arrives at the new address, and the people at the new address cannot move? Then you have requirement for wot be able to actually settle , lawyers are not considered an essential service.
It is incredibly irresponsible for companies like Crown to make definitive statements like that.

I have access to masks but I'm not sure I will use them. Stay out of the way of other people
