Rishi Sunak has announced support for freelancers of 80% of last years profit by month. Also made it pretty clear that all freelancers are going to be paying full National Insurance going forward.
Those complaining about IR35 and arguing that they shouldn't pay NI as they didn't get benefits have just had that argument shot out from under them.
Be careful what you wish for - and get ready to pay 12-25% in NI as well as tax.

Yeah 80% of what you got last year is probably a LOT MORE than 80% of what they paid tax on for many - so that will also come back to bite!

I see the UK has now joined the EU's Coronavirus Medical Purchase Program after some MP's accused the government of "Putting Brexit before Breathing" for not joining the program.
Turns out the EU had forgotten to send the UK an invitation.
Moral - if you're an Oppositions MP in a time of national crisis, constructively oppose but don't be an arse.

Fair enough in a time of crisis. Agree it would be sinister, probably illegal, in normal times

@Victor-Meldrew Rolling back some of these practices should be compulsary after this crisis.

Think they are time-limited and have to be approved by Parliament every 6 months. Data Protection laws ban disproportionate practices in any case

A really good article comparing Australia's response to NZ.

I see the US is over 80,000 cases now, they will be the most infected country in next 24 hours. Whilst the virus originated In China I think the US were the ones who spread it far and wide. Will be interesting to see the death toll if they open up by Easter.

Monitoring the rate of change here, we've had a couple of flatter days. Was sitting at an increase of ~1.22 but dropped into the ~1.15 range
Blue line needs to drop below 1.0 of course, BUT the big issue might yet be flights landing and more imported (as opposed to locally transmitted) cases. Apparently different airports are giving out different advice slips

@pakman because their media department made a video to show people exactly what they shouldn't be doing? What's wrong with it?
The vehicles were well spaced. Those walking in the park were keeping their distance. That's NOT what the Government Guidelines are meant to stop.
If there was a full car park, queues to get in and bunched up walkers, THAT would be woryh making a video about.

So they should wait until it gets that way and then make a video? Or nip it in the bud? What should they focus on in the meantime?

Mrs & Mrs Meldrew & whanau are currently doing an online Pub Quiz with another 113,000 people.

@Victor-Meldrew yeah couldn't be arsed tonight but might do it next week.
Tell you what the makers of the houseparty app won't be knowing what's hit them.
