Yeah, being a Tom he doesn't bring his catch back to share with us. Unlike our other cat
She brings everything from mice to lizards to bats back. Trust me, a damaged bat flopping around your pillow at 2am is a serious downer

Just don't eat it, then you bring the whole world down.

Coming next: Ted Bundy on how to be a good person.

We don't eat them. We have our very own research lab

@Victor-Meldrew is he a ginger cat? Out there question but every ginger cat I've ever known acts like a dog.
I'm pretty damn certain Bumble (RIP) thought he was a Labrador.

okay, so the family has worn me down to the point where i am considering getting a dog
And if i am getting a dog, i want a German Shepherd. Because they are boss as fuck.
Is this a fucking stupid idea? Anyone had one?
-
@mariner4life It's only stupid if you're not prepared to put in the work to keep them entertained and stimulated. Being shepherds they're natural herders and guard dogs with near limitless energy. Golden rule is to not reward or acknowledge bad behaviour when they're pups.
You don't see poodles getting their own Inspector Rex show do you?

Shit, same! I really want a GS too! Though we won't be getting one until Dec/Jan.
I haven't seen many around Sydney and wondered if they didn't love the heat?
Such wicked animals

i have a fair bit of land for it to run around, but i don't have any fence on 3 sides (and the 4th is just a short wire one).
To be honest, while i like the idea of having a dog, i am fucked if i know how to fit one in our lives. Or how i afford the fencing on my block to keep it safe.

@mariner4life up until Covid, you went away a bit too didnt you, therefore putting the dog into a kennel is another thing to consider...

yeah one of is us away reasonably regularly. But most days we leave home at 7.30 and get home around 6. Saturdays are packed with sports. I feel like our lifestyle is not fair to a dog. Especially a big one.
And i don't want one of those little dogs.

They cost too, beyond the infrastructure etc..
We have an IG that we got when we thought we would be dinks forever (i.e., had given up on having little gt12s) and it was great, although getting someone to watch the dog when we went away was a major hassle. Plus finding dog friendly places is a pain.
Since having our boy, it's very different. we are finding it really hard to balance getting the dog out enough and giving her enough exercise. I fight with my wife constantly about the fact that we are the only things she has in life, so we have to make time for her and make an effort to take her out, even though we have kid activities etc.
My boy loves her; she puts up with him as he drops food.
She also has two families (who babysit her when we are away) who like to take her for weekends occasionally, so it's still a worthwhile hassle, but it's a hassle.
So, if you think you can get a safe enough space with enough space at home, and there is enough time in the day for the dog to get some attention and be a real part of the family, then I'd say go for it.
However, given that I'm an IG guy, I'd also suggest looking into adopting a retired greyhound as another option ( see here or here or here. They need homes and are fun dogs; if we were in NZ with a big yard, that would be my choice. They'd be shit guard dogs, but they are generally quiet and like to sleep for about 22 hours a day, so if they get their 1 hour of play with the family each day, that should be enough to keep them happy and whatever life you gave them would likely be better than the one they are leaving.
By the way, bitches only.
