@Frank really big If considering this has already been looked at countless times and every investigation has come back with nothing untoward to report. Plus the Washington Times first reported this in January and claimed to have the smoking gun but never backed up the claim. Plus they peddle a long line of discredited theories - climate change is bogus, second hand smoke - bogus Obama was a muslim jihadist. Not sure on their position on the moon landings....

Of course these are preliminary findings and not peer reviewed, but are these Australian researchers in on the conspiracy to discredit China?Have China let inspection agencies into the Wuhan lab for a proper investigation?
Regardless of what went on, this crisis will probably change the way the world - and the West in particular - looks at China.
I can't see the view that China is a benevolent source of cheap goods and that the money to be made selling to it's huge and growing market overrides any negatives continuing to prevail.
Sure, the likes of Merkel may want to compromise to keep selling China BMW's and others will see any change in relations with China as being a no-no as it's agreeing with Trump, but I don't think things will be carrying as as they were.

@Siam The counter argument would be Trump fan-bois buy in to his paranoia and attempts to blame anyone but himself - even his own appointees - rather than accept that the President of The US both through his actions and inactions has exacerbated what was already a crisis into a catastrophe.
It is shameful that the richest and most resourced country on earth has been shown up to be so unprepared, so unable to adapt, so riven by distrust and personality politics. Trump isn't solely to blame for all of that but he has to take his share of the responsibility.
Turns out appointing a clown to lead you in a time of crisis isn't all that funny.
The fact is that if Trump was NZ PM it is likely things would have been OK and had Cindy been POTUS there'd have been tens of thousands of deaths.
The cult of personality is fairly pointless.
Lottery numbers for Saturday please
Six numbers between 1-40, no duplicates. I'll send the invoice.
so only 38 numbers to choose from?
Classic client. Didn't read the report 🙃

That park is near me. West Byfleet is a decent enough sort of area, but it has had some anti social behaviour issues over the last few months.
Hitting a cop though is far beyond this though, and I see arrests made is great. They'll be in jail for this.

Update from the Mother Land.
I've been keeping my nose out of it or a while - the bullshit, political plays and country divide was getting on my tits. Combine that with the tenant in our rental flat disappearing, working 14 hour days and the kids losing their shit over home schooling, it's not been a great time.
Anyway, I can proudly report that Piers Morgan is officially our new Prime Minister. It seems that what Piers wants, Piers gets. Starts a campaign about this, this happens. Be annoyed about that, that happens. Two quite clear examples. Captain Tom has been knighted, and the NHS surcharge (paid by everybody who immigrates here) has been scrapped for NHS workers. As if his ego wasn't big enough already.
Anyway, overall the country seems on the improve. Numbers are dropping, things are opening up (slowly) and people are starting to look forwards. All in all, not bad.
Still seems to be a lot of love for Cindy, with many people pointing out the NZ loss life etc as the benchmark we should be disgraced / ashamed / humiliated / shameful about. Obviously, very easy comparison if the UK was in the middle of nowhere with 5mm people, and no airports. But lets forget about that. The praise should, in my view, be as much for the NZ population as Cindy. They listened, they did what was said, they didn't act confused.
The UK comm's were nowhere near as bad as being portrayed. Yes Boris fucked up a couple of times (I shook their hands), but when shit got real, he got real. Certain outlets will have you believe throughout this crisis, every single park across the country was rammed full of people not social distancing, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Yes, there were issues, and yes London probably bore the brunt of it. But as of now, London hasn't reported a hospital death in a while, nor a new case. Tha argument of why is still still shut down is growing by the minute.
Karol Sikora has without doubt, been the voice of reason. He's been slammed by many for being optimistic, but he reports on facts only. Not conjecture, not opinions. Facts. He offers opinions based on those facts, yes, and a lot of them are positive. But so what? It's a sea of negativity out there. Apparently one of his interviews was blocked on youtube as it was too optimistic. What message does that send? Who blocked it?
Track and trace doesn't stand chance of working here. No way. The people don't trust the government.
And when you read the above, why would they?
So overall .. still here, still kicking. Tough few years ahead probably, but shit happens. Didn't want the 911 anyway.

Agree with almost all of the above. But Sikora has some commercial interests which have led to accusations of partiality. So I am a little skeptical when I read his pieces.
When one looks at things, it seems that sorting public transport (masks for all) and distancing would obviate the need for lock down.
Biggest issue still staff at hospitals and care homes, as they are the main carriers. But no clear strategy which can deal with that.
-
@pakman The care homes thing is a clusterfuck. But some points have never been touched by the media at all, in their rush to blame the government.
- Most care homes are private
- The govt did say people need not be tested before sending people back to care homes if they have no symptoms
Now, if you were managing a care home, would you not immediately put provisions in place for
- Care home vistors
- Care home returnees from hospital regardless of symptoms, why in hospital, local outbreak etc.
It is basic 1+1= 2 that you realise your residents are all considered high risk, and basic pragmatism means you put your home at the top alert level earlier than others with maximum precautions? If you need the government to tell you that, then you have no right to run a care home in my opinion.
Senior staffers in the NHS and care home operatives are getting a massive let off at the moment, in people's rush to find fault with the government.

The media have been utter shite in doing their job during this crisis. At best incompetent in checking facts and any potential bias their "experts" may have, or at worst deliberately peddling fake news. And the public have cottoned onto it.
They need to get their act together or governments are going to restrict journalistic access and bypass them altogether .
-
@Victor-Meldrew you are 100% right there in my circle. Nobody has any interest in media reporting anymore, as it's too full of conjecture and opinion. Not fact.
Govt is already restricting journalistic access according to one notable bell end ...
Although to widen that would be knocking down a key pillar of an open democratic society.

I genuinely don't know what's more dangerous - a government boycotting parts of the media or parts of the media setting out to undermine the government with misleading, false, biased information and comment.

It's a bit of a pantomime, really. Expect BoJo told Sirker that the senior echelons of NHS and PHE were totally hopeless, and that would be reviewed in due course. But they can't well call them out publicly when they're still reliant on them.
UK press give every appearance of being so gormless that they believe ministers have personal involvement in the detail. For example, in case of PPE wanted public to write to Hancock regarding its handling, when a PPE Tsar had been appointed to sort -- Lord Deighton.
Easier just to tune out.

Quite a lot of that on Sweden. Lefties hate the fact they're ploughing their own furrow. Swedes each day report deaths which include revisions of past data going back sometimes three weeks. So seven day rolling announced deaths are twice the last seven days by date, if that makes sense. Last seven days rolling announced was high last week and UK press were all falling over themselves with 'Swedish imprudent strategy on buffers' fake news.
They need to get their act together or governments are going to restrict journalistic access and bypass them altogether .

OK, so small sample size - ie 1! But.. a friend of mine is in a private care home locally following a severe accident. They were in full lockdown before the Government announcements and the staff had PPE. No reported cases as yet.
So if the will and foresight was there it would seem disaster could have been avoided to one degree or another.
In other words, I am agreeing with you!

Think it was the Telegraph pushing that story a day or two ago.
Guido Fawkes has been documenting many of their howlers . They ran a piece saying something like "Chaos as Hancock changes "Stay Alert" to "Keep Distance".
Turns out the "Keep Distance" slogan was one the Telegraph itself came up with after the government paid them for an advertising campaign...
