@Bovidae As is probably well known I find those two performances comical, and not in a good way. But the other three of his movies mentioned On this page he is brilliant in.
I agree DDL does play both roles over the top, and watching these films back-to-back reinforced that.
I would make the same criticism of Javier Bardem which is why I wasn't a fan of No Country for Old Men or him in Skyfall.

@Bovidae these are good points on Bardem. But in a Bond film the villain should be larger than life. NCFOM was defo hamming it up though.
He was great in Skyfall. Lame death though.

The Lovebirds.
This is one of those annoying movies where the trailer includes all the good stuff. Even at less than 90 mins this is tedious as hell, supposed to be madcap or something but just unfunny and underdeveloped. Couple no one cares about keeps doing stupid things, cartoonish villain wants them dead, a whole lot of plot points that seem disconnected from each other (and then you get the police saying shit like 'oh, [random group]? yeah we've been watching them for ages.') The leads deserved so much better than this idiot script.
1 cyclist gets murdered out of 5 bird mask orgies. -

@Catogrande I feel sorry for the unwitting birds. Reminds of this doozy....
Did you know that pigeons die after sex? Well the ones that I had sex with did anyway.

Interested to see how this turns out considering to this day I still can't decide whether I like the 1984 version or not........
Sting approaching the height of his pompous I can do anything time and you can't decide?
There is no hope for you.

Too much confusion, shitty FX and bizarre editing and continuity don't help matters.
I shoulda read the book over lockdown.

It's a great book, absolute classic. Really hard to turn into a film though, but I'm looking forward to the 2020 attempt. CGI could make it all better
Yeah some of the 1984 fx are horrific. Mainly the shield things and the spacecrafts. The worms looked ok though so I’m sure with technology the way it is nowadays they’ll be even better looking now.

The 1984 movie had a cool soundtrack.
Also Virginia Madsen is about as hot a woman as you'll ever see on screen which helps matters.

I went old school last night and watched the original Police Academy. It did not hold up. At all.
Also just learned they are going to make a sequel to Labyrinth, and wtf people. WHY???
Police Academy is so bad, tasteless, homophobic , casually racist, sexist, into fat shaming and horrifically dated that it's still great fun in my opinion.

Finally got round to watching The Big Short. Understand the financial workings, but it was the portrayal of the various types of people involved which I thought brilliantly done.
Steve Carrell was outstanding. Olivier (I think) once said a good comedy actor was invariably a brilliant straight one. Proved in this film.
One of the few films I've watched start-finish for quite some time. 9/10
