@mariner4life problem with any type of bus is that the roads into the CBD are at capacity now and the buses grid lock - irrespective of the drive train
@taniwharugby Apparently Winnie was able to wheedle out of the Agreement because of the introduction of the PPP element.
Fucking Twyford. This project was pretty much "shovel ready" in 2017. Then he took it off AT and gave it to NZTA. Then he had dinner with the Canadians and was seduced by the latest bright shiny thing and it all became a cluster fuck. He really is a moron. He made it all about travel times to the airport whereas it was and still should be about a) freeing upo Dominion Road from the buses and b) offering rapid transit to Mt Roskill and Mangere.
Real losers are the west as this has killed the prospect of Light Rail to Kumeu which IMO should be an even higer priority (and should have been built when they widened the motorway)
Kumeu is a shitshow. We were looking at houses out that way, it's a nice area but the bridge out is at gridlock most of the time. No plans to increase capacity out there for roads either, and more developments are going up. What could go wrong?

They did the same thing out Botany way, when they built Te Irirangi Drive to connect Botany Downs to Manukau City. They built 4 lanes with a wide strip down the middle, perfect size for rapid bus lanes, and what did they do next? Planted a line of huge palm trees instead. So while you sit in gridlock every morning and every evening you can run the risk of the birds shitting on your car. Jesus wept

@Kirwan
Good news is that there is a Plan. Supporting Growth an alliance between AT, NZTA and various consultacies put this out mid last year
Bad news is - it's a 30 year plan with no timeframes or costings yet.
However when I first started lobbying govt for the SH18/SH1 connection to be upgraded to motorway status thus completing the western ring route I was told it was 30 years away yet now it's half built.
So there is hope.
Mind you I'll be dead before most of my wish list is started let alone completed. -
@taniwharugby she's been back on the usual travel cycle, was opening a school in Christchurch the other day.

@canefan Kiwibuild targets were too ambitious for the conservative fiscal approach to it.
Certainly consistent with the narrative that they have lots of ideas but no idea how to implement them
what, throwing money at things doesn't get results? Quelle horreur

Yes, I'm shocked

It’s almost like they learned the theory but have never had to run an actual business or implement anything.
Add in their consistent surprise at unintended consequences (like attacking landlords raising rents for the poor), and the damage these clowns are doing is huge.

And Cindy's penchant for recruiting lawyers, community medical people and probably more teachers instead of actual business people that run actual businesses into her caucus will not help.

@canefan I think it's more likely to solidify their vote - maybe take a few off labour.
Greens wet dream must be Labour get 47 ish seats, NZF fail to clear 5% and they hold the balance of power alone.
Their wealth tax works towards that strategy. Takes away from Labour some of the less centrist socialists making them more important in any coalition but unlikely to cost them any votes.
It's also good for everyone else too - except Labour. Gives all the centre right parties a stick to beat Labour and the Greens with. Terrible for Labour for that very reason. Last thing they want is a debate over tax

Labour would not agree to such a tax anyway I reckon, it would scare away centrist middle class voters
