Rather than buying a new tv, you could just buy a large screen and plug your phone or laptop into it to stream content. That's how my writing desk is set up. I haven't had a tv for about 12 years or so, never miss it because I watch everything online or on my phone.

@Virgil or just buy a cheap and cheerful TV, and wing it for a while.
Man, screen prices have plummetted.
40inch LCD.

Not sure what else to call this or even if it’s worthy of its own thread... but work is quiet so I thought why the fuck not.
Not sure I mentioned this earlier but I recused 3 kittens from the skip bin out front of work a few weeks ago.. oh wait I did?!?.. well anyway they are doing great, one has a new home and we are keeping the other 2.
Slight issue, we already have 2 dogs who have grown up only seeing cats as annoying animals that tease them from the neighbours fence. Anyway long story not so long, we attempted to bond them lastnight.
Didn’t go that well, end result is the Mrs was scratched up badly and the 55inch tv in the lounge is caput.
The wife tried to shoe one of the dogs away with water but inadvertently got water into the tv, unknown to us. Few mins later the picture changed to vertical lines and then nothing.
Anyway it’s probably fucked and I thought great, due to get a new tv anyway, one packed full of flashy bits and coop stuff. But then it’s kinda hit me we don’t watch a lot of tv in the lounge. We have another tv in the bedroom. It’s the only one that is connected to Netflix, Disney + etc
The kids use it or they are glue to the line iPad in the house or the Mac.
So I’m thinking do we need to shell out $1500- $2500 on something that only gets used an hour or so every night?
We ditched sky earlier in the year, don’t miss it. I don’t watch as much sport as I used to ( strange thing to admit too in a sports forum)Anyone else come to the realisation their habits or lifestyle can just change?
I should point out I’m not turning into one of those insufferable pricks who proudly state they don’t have a tv or device in their house, fuck that. I couldn’t imagine life without a phone or pc/Mac.
New tvs do look cool but do I really need one?...I'm glad there's others on here like me.
Due to being away for work a fair bit or visiting the other half I've become extremely accustomed to watching stuff on the laptop. There's still obviously a lot to be said for going somewhere to watch a game of some sort but but my TV goes days and days without use sometimes.

You’ll be blown away, tv is in Color now..
Great idea and single childless me ( somewhere in an alternate universe that version of me exists) would go for that.
I still can’t make up my mind, I’ve decided to follow terrible advice and make an insurance claim.
Let’s see where the dice land... -

New tvs do look cool but do I really need one?...wow, that was a roller coaster of a read!
full credit for saving the kittens, boggles the mind how someone could do that
out of the box idea, get a small projector, bring it out when you want to watch some sport or a movie but pack it up otherwise, just cast stuff from you phone

You're attention to detail whenever Virgil posts something is mind boggling.
Yeah. Imagine being able to read words. It's my cross to bare.

I'd argue it was from the first post and that Virgil was the one who chucked the water at the TV

I do like how we've both taken the opportunity to share some classic TV ads on this thread.
