Known white supremacist 'Frederick Douglass'.
That is choice!

Great retort
'It's my job to educate you'
I think she's got the painters in tbh

It's the sheer vaculity of the arguments which continues to astound me when I see things like this.
Is there no critical thinking or reasoning in their heads or do they think owning a book which reinforces their rather weird view on skin colour gives them some sort of intellectual superiority?

Here's a thread which expands on the meeting. Well worth a read/listen to understand the thinking (or lack of) of these people. The bit from 16:55 where the Latino member criticised SJW Robin and her response sums things up brilliantly.

I am not against action and people informing themselves about this and parents, families and communities having a discussion and debate. But this is very disappointing and does nothing to educate or even ‘help the cause’. It’s irresponsible and a classic case of over reach.

Jesus. My ears are bleeding.
Have to admire Robin's self-confidence though. Wearing a swimsuit to a business meeting. Stay classy Chicago.

Apologies. I should have included a health warning

Her intellectual self-confidence exhibited itself as nothing less than racial bigotry. How the fuck do these people get into a position to influence public policy?

Looked the bloke up. Amazing story and speeches. Trump has actually been praising Douglass for the last few years, comparing him to MLK (which isn't an unfair comparison TBH). Trump's already attacked the "anarchists" who pulled the statue down.
Makes you wonder if it wasn't loony white supremacists, it was the loopy anti-Trump brigade thinking praise from Trump automatically makes you evil...

@Rembrandt @antipodean I'm not defending her actions, but the day we stop caring about people dying is a pretty fucking sad day. Do we care about a drug addict dying any more? An alcoholic? Someone with a criminal record?
According to WEF, 150,000 people die per day around the world. I don't give them a second's thought and I don't believe anyone else does either.
It's a very diffent concept to say you don't think about the 150k people that die each day of various causes that you neither know nor hear about, to hearing a story about one person dying and stating you don't care about them because their political views led them to do something stupid.

I wonder how many know this about the cause?

Yeah my post was a joke, I thought he was more of a household name. Amazing guy alright. Yeah this statue pulling down has zero to do with saving black lives. The goal is to destroy society.
I think @Siam posted this video earlier, good summary of what we are actually seeing here. The difference between this attempt to burn the world down and previous attempts is that now academic control to the extremists is almost total and we don't have a functioning media apparatus who can be trusted to point out when they have gone too far.

Their political views could be exactly the same as mine. We could support the same teams and like the same drinks, music etc. But I'm not going to pretend I give a shit that some idiot got run over fucking around on a freeway at night. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Interesting attitude mate. Not one I share. I've made a shit load of mistakes in my life and no doubt my kids will do the same. Must be weird being perfect.

I don't know how you get to that conclusion. I'm not pretending I haven't made errors in my life, and on reflection think "there but by the grace of god go I". But I don't pretend to shed a tear because if I did that for every story in the news, I'd empty my empathy well for people who actually matter to me.

@Bones said in Black Lives Matter:
@voodoo wait, are you saying that if you'd died making one of those mistakes you'd hope someone halfway around the world who has no link to you at all would give a shit?
Not someone, everyone. I'm not expecting a fucking eulogy or a letter to my mum, but my death, if told to them, should elicit a response closer to "shame, I feel for his family", rather than "what a cock for doing that, I couldn't care less that he died"

Also the internet.
Whereas before you had limited access to information compared to now, you had to understand, think about and critique stuff. Now you just search for stuff which reinforces your prejudices and/or use a poorly written book you agree with and quote them as your sources.

So, racial profiling etc here is high profile again due to Bianca Williams being stopped / searched.
I'm not even torn on this one.
Drive a blacked out nice car through a high-violent crime area is a dangerous way (fled from police on wrong side of the road apparently) and you think the police have no right to demand you get out of your car for a stop and search? The video that's gone viral shows Bianca acting hysterically with the police being extremely firm but also fair IMHO. She's clearly taking advantage of everything that's going on here.
