Lvl 3 lockdown for six weeks for Metro Melbourne...awesome
Just wow
But aussie still did an awesome job dealing with covid right?
They/we did.
Not so much the quarantining of infected peeps coming back in.
And it's one state.
Qld, SA, WA, ACT, Tas, NT and even NSW have killed it.
Only Victoria has dropped the ball on the returnees.
Hope they contain it.

Hotel quarantine mismanaged. Non-compulsory testing when leaving quarantine made absolute no sense.
But also others that had symptoms and didn’t get test and even worse, some that had contracted the virus, did not self isolate and went off to work, family gatherings etc and it has spread.
I may have to revisit the ol’ Parenting thread with only the oldest returning to school next Monday and the other 4 at home....

I think there were legal issues with that

My brother in law is in Melbourne and says the private company overseeing the isolation process fucked up big time. Literally

There are powers that can be made under health orders available to the States to keep people quarantined until they get tested. This was confirmed by the Chief Medical Officer.

Messaged a mate in VIC yesterday asking how he was etc and he planned to get through this latest development.
He responded at 11.58pm last night with a pic of his motel room in Albury.
Made me wonder just how many will do the same? He has family in NSW so made sense for him, but there could be heaps in similar situations.
Are we about to see a spike in NSW as a result?
-
@ACT-Crusader Security Guards - Minimum wage job for people with few other options.
So you'd think their training would have amounted to more than being locked in a room together to watch a 12 minute video and then set free to "do the job".
Yet according to an interview on NR this was the sum total of their training.
Hardly surprising the resulting cluster fuck

@mariner4life There is no worse type of person than the self described social media influencer.
Being ‘famous’ and an ‘influencer’ online is like being rich in Monopoly. It’s not real.

They're even lower than reporters for Stuff.co.nz

So what are they doing in places like Albury/Wodonga? Barbed wire? A Trump style wall?

NSW police are controlling the border crossing.

Meanwhile, Victorians (who can't do the simplest shit it seems) are back to panic buying like the barely shaved monkeys they are. You'd think that the supermarket chains might have had the intellect to insist on purchase limits again, but no.

Christ! They are like some kind of Texas County Sheriffs down there. Smoky and the Bandit stuff (although I doubt anyone will be trying to smuggle VB across the border)

@dogmeat no doubt about it. I don’t for one minute underestimate that this had to be rolled out fast but there are checks and balances that are needed. Get police in to work in conjunction with the security whilst additional training is rolled out for example. Critical corners have been cut.

I wonder willing is the populace going to be going back to house arrest after only recently tasting freedom? Might be a fair few saying "fuck it, I did my part and government still fucked it up, not going to do that again"
What if lockdown fails again?
How many times before they have to say fuck it, a lot of (mostly old) people will die but we have to get back to work?
