I want to know if it was sent more broadly within the National party, and if Muller knew about this before dumb and dumber fessed up.
Sounds like Muller knew Monday afternoon, checked there was an enquiry, and has then chopped heads since. That Walker allowed senior politicians to put the boot into a leak that came from an MP suggests that they weren't involved. Also, if anyone with sense and experience was involved, I can't see the actual information being distributed.
Honestly, I'm shaking my head. So much poor judgement and incompetence from two people who should have known better.

Nats doing absolutely everything they can to lose the election before the campaigning starts.
This is a pretty shocking leak that is distinctive - ie memorable and helps with the de-positioning of Nats as a trustworthy government in waiting.
Thus, Labor may be able to explain away its incompetence by arguing that at least they aren't dirty political scumbags who don’t care about personal privacy.
Just terrible.

Good for him to check his facts first. Good of him to try and cut out the poison. Jacinda has yet to slice and dice any of her mistake ridden team if I am not mistaken. I agree it is the last thing the Nats needed right now. But I don't see them winning anyway, just have to try and keep it as close as they can

Which party used information regarding the ethnicity of house buyers in Auckland to prove a point about immigration a while back?

@Crucial any chance of criminal charges? That'd be awesome
Against Boag? I would think they’ll be looking at it.
I m not entirely sure why she was in the distribution list as acting CEO of the rescue helicopter outfit in the first place but stillWell it couldn't happen to a nicer person. Seriously, who does she think she is?

@canefan As shifty as that was, consciously breaching the privacy of individual, named members of the public is not something we can base our whataboutery on.
Don't get me wrong, this is a massive mistake. But let's not kid ourselves that Cindy's most excellent transparent government is much different

That's the most disappointing thing, the consistency of incompentance across all parties. I could only point out a handful of any of them that I respect.

We are being run by idiots right now. And I'm not so sure the idiots in blue are any more capable. Winston is looking about as reasonable as he has been for a long time, which is a sad indictment

Yep, when Winston is the least extreme and the moderating voice we are in deep shit. Good thing we aren't borrowing 150B and mortagaing out country's future....

@canefan did that actually identify individuals? or was it a summary of the ethnicity data only? if the latter its still shitty but no where as bad as this latest (double) leak imo.
Well that was fairly racist as well, as apparently having a chinese surname means you can't be a kiwi.

I don't think they did. However its hardly proper conduct for a woke party these days. Or is it okay because they were looking at asians?

by the sound of it, yep, individuals, locations and so on. If you weren't an idiot, you could have even provided the ethnicity data and a screenshot WITHOUT identifying information to say 'look what is being stored - super not secure'. After all, if patient info is the holy grail and not allowed to be shared, it shouldn't be in a goddamn spreadsheet (wihtout protection) in the first place
-
@canefan are you asking me? I saw that as a shitty thing to do and said so.
But having your full info out there as opposed to 'just' your ethnicity is worse imo - you are ripe to get doxed and god knows how many media outlets have tried to make contact.
@nzzp just checking you are referring to the latest leak? not the earlier sharing of house purchase data? Any instance of data being shared where people are identifiable is an absolute no no. Whether as a leak or a hamfisted attempt to sway opinion - also noting @Kirwan's point of focusing on Asian sounding names as some kind of indicator about your nationality
-
@Paekakboyz as you were, was talking about the most recent piece. not the Labour 'sounding Asian' piece.
Data's a real problem eh.

The people I'm feeling most sorry for right now are the poor bastards who live in Clutha-Southland. They went from Bill English to Todd 'I'm not recording' Barclay, and now Hamish 'take a long' Walker.

What does it say about Southland?
