4 new cases, 2 in isolation and 2 new community transmissions from recent arrival who had finished isolation.
Start of a new cluster, better not affect dropping levels tomorrow -

Start of a new cluster, better not affect dropping levels tomorrowBit of a concern that someone made it through isolation without being picked by testing, but agree that if it's just a few cases, no need to hold back the level changes tomorrow.

so with this new case, who had previously tested negative twice, what sort of % of people can be negative for over 2 weeks and then show as positive?
Makes it pretty hard to eliminate it, again without a complete border shutdown.
Highlights the need for a better plan about how we manage this virus in our communities!

Or, we could keep going for elimination and just extend quarantine on arrival out to 4 weeks...

@taniwharugby I saw the AirNZ head saying he'd be shocked if there was a bubble before March, so with effectively no compassionate grounds for early release anymore, circumstances could easily mean it could actually be years before I come back to NZ now.

seems this journo just making shit up, you cant tell me a move back up the levels is even remotely possible, if anything, I think this recent case just highlights the pointlessness of lockdowns to try and control it while we have the border open (and we know they cant close it)
Move back to alert level 3 or 4
As much as Kiwis want to move down alert levels, it is not out of the question that there could be a move up.
If Auckland – or New Zealand as a whole – moved back to level 3 or 4, restrictions would heavily increase and some shops would have to close again.
People would be asked to work from home and travel would be further restricted.

Ministry of Health officials said this man either had a rare, extremely long incubation period after catching Covid-19 on the flight from India, or caught it on his flight from Christchurch to Auckland.
However, Baker told Stuff a third option seemed more likely: that the man was infected at the managed isolation facility.
“If he was infected at day 10 he could have been negative at day 12 and developed symptoms in Auckland,” Baker said.

Auckland 'drops' to L2 form Midnight Wednesday, for at least 14 days and if you travel outside Auckland, take your 'level2' with you.
Rest of NZ back to L1
Interesting how the 'reviews' are pushed out a day or 2 each time too.
I mean the last change was a midnight Sunday change, now a midnight Monday for rest of NZ, and Wednesday for Auckland.
The pipedream still alive though:
Analysis shows that there's still a 50/50 chance of eliminating Covid-19 by the end of the month.
-
@taniwharugby in part, the Covid orders require 48 hours before they take effect, so a lot of it is dependent on when they are drafted and signed.

It's impossible to eliminate it. We can't even eliminate the common cold or the flu, it's a ludicrous goal.

I spent the weekend in Auckland for a night off the farm and the only difference I could tell from normality was that I needed to have a mask on when Ubering about.

People are going about their business as best they can. The economic impact is like an iceberg, 80% of it is below the surface.

Yes, completely get that, I guess I was more saying that we are all going about our day to day business as normal (Well that is what it appears to me) No real difference between levels 2.5, 2 and 1. In fact what is the difference between 2.5 and 2?

@Stargazer said in Coronavirus - New Zealand:
It's about elimination of community spread; not of the virus itself.
Who said anything about that?
To make it clear, we can't prevent people getting other viruses like colds or the flu. The only way, before a vaccine, is to completely close the border. It's not a practical goal.
When we started the lockdowns we were told we were trying to flatten the curve so our health system didn't get overloaded. The change to an elimination goal is going to cause long term damage to the country.

Thats not how a large portion of people will read it though.
And that is until next time, similar to the article I posted about how that guy who tested positive after leaving isolation, with one of the possible ways he got it, was during the last few days of his isolation, that if proven to be correct, means our managed facilities again will be under the spotlight.
I am all for keeping our numbers down, but we must do it better than shutting the country down and stopping people and communities from doing anything at all.

I'm unsure of the actual rules but under 2.5 AKL hospo businesses were unviable. Under 2 for the last few weeks in Welly most hospo is operating as normal.
Rugby games will get crowds back if not played at EP, Puke or Albany
