I donât think that âoffensive â is necessarily the point here.
Entrenching or continuing tropes is more the disappointing thing. Itâs only at the levels of advertising that makes out that men are incompetent idiots around the house or should aspire to being âblokesâ though.
I do think that there is a little validity in pointing out possible links with male on female violence. Not a strong connection but enough that it could enforce a thinking that already exists in someone -

Iâll go to that pub for a feed, beer and a piss and if the images inspire me to go home and beat up the potential future Mrs MN5 Iâll let the fern know.

I am so over all of this PC shit!!! People need to get a sense of humour and grow a pair. If you don't like something, don't do it, look at it, go there etc etc, instead of running to social media and trying to cause a shitstorm.
For what it's worth I think this is very clever from the pub owner.
says the person jumping on social media to complain about something
I want to complain about you calling me out for complaining about people complaining about stuff they shouldn't be complaining about

i am far too old to worry about what someone thinks about the size of my cock.
But if i can be serious for a moment:
This kind of thing above the pisser is really old, and done all over the place. I am not suprised however that it has only just turned up in Taranaki
I think it is an incredibly long bow to draw to suggest this is the kind of thing that will send a dude home to knock around the missus. Guys who do that are fucking assholes set off by all manner of shit, i very much doubt this alone is enough. If we are to eliminate everything that might trigger violence in a fucking asshole, the rest of us aren't going to be left with much.
How many fucking organisations for very specific shit are there now? I feel like there is always another spokesperson from another organisation no matter what "controversy" the media can drum up off a tweet.
The original complaint has some merit in the fact that you would never get away with this if you reversed the gender. Unfortunately the response of "yeah, ban everything" is probably the opposite of the point they were trying to tediously make. Stupid jokes about dick sizes should be allowed. Stupid jokes about boobs and asses should be allowed too. Relish your objectification. As a privileged, white, straight, cisgendered male, i realise i am the enemy (that's fucking tongue in cheek, don't @ me) but the utopia these people who react to this shit want seems like a really fucking dull existence.

Possibly your most sensible post ever.
Cancel Culture can well and truly absolutely get fucked.

Definitely see your point and itâs not what you are saying, but there seems to be this weird counterargument that those âtriggeredâ by this type of lunacy are somehow just as bad. When you have what is most often a tiny minority trying to force their views onto others I donât think itâs surprising that some people will be very pissed off.
-
@rancid-schnitzel as you say it was a joke but you have made me think
why is it ok for some people to be annoyed and complain about something like this but its not ok for others to be annoyed and complaining about something else that annoys them? does the "don't read it, look at it, dont go there etc etc" not apply to everyone?

Indeed. Some she/he/it LGBT pronoun gets called out on their bullshit and they gleefully proclaim they have âtriggeredâ a racist/fascist/sexist/bigot by getting them to respond.
Makes me think of this.....

Itâs not about having an opinion but rather forcing that opinion down other peopleâs throats. And what if the âdonât read it, donât look at it etc.â option isnât available?
-
@rancid-schnitzel i guess in this particular case it was a choice to click on the article , if anything it wold seem that is easier to avoid than, if you were in the bar and having to go to the toilet, as we all do, and coming across something offensive (to them)
On paper, clicking on articles which we can tell are going to rile us is very similar to those that go about choosing to get offended about everything
-
Calling out the âpolitically correct, do-gooding, letâs find something to be offended about today movementâ doesnât even come close to being the same as actually being part of that movement.
The crap is so wide spread itâs hard to avoid, and then you add in the fact that the bloody media feed these knob jockeys, whipping them up into frenzies.
On the whole I donât click into such articles, but again, the outrageous click bait headlines are unavoidable if youâre on any media websites or social media platforms.Bugger the PC brigade đđœ

Iâm not talking about articles. An in any case, what is worse: a tiny minority actively petitioning to have something banned or cancelled or people getting pissed off about that?
-
@rancid-schnitzel i mean, the article is what started this, @Gunner has seen an article about something that has annoyed him so much hes come on here to spread the news and complain
if im honest i actually dont see too much difference now youve pointed it out, just people complaining about and making a big deal about stuff they could have ignored

It's worth commenting on because without push back the woke movement is getting people fired. Now that this has been given exposure, people can vote with their wallets.
As always the new fascists will find themselves in the minority.
-
@kirwan as long as people realise the "woke brigade" ,or at least most of them, feel theyre pushing back against unacceptable behaviour...so if you step out of either camp for a second you'll see a lot of similarities in behaviours only separated by what specifically is offensive to each group
an ironically one of the only other differentiators is the "dont engage with something if going to offend you" argument ....but the ones calling for that are also failing to do it
-

No, the article didnât start this, the PC lunacy did. Youâre effectively equating @Gunner with them.

I get where you are coming from, and there are definitely a lot of right wing snowflakes out there. I remember loads of them getting triggered when Harry Styles wore a dress - I mean who gives a shit about that?
But when people try to have things they don't like banned or censored, they are impeding on other people's rights, so people rightly push back against that. I don't think there is a single example in human history where the people who were advocating banning and/or censoring others were the good guys.

Itâs just like the Christian conservative nutjobs decades ago. They havenât gone away but everyone now tells them to feck off when they try to push back against unacceptable behaviour. Theyâd still be getting their way if it wasnât for pushback. Same goes for the lefty Woke Brigade. It doesnât have to be a tribal thing.
