I know. It sucks.
you can appear to cheat economics in the short term, but damnit, the dismal science always wins in the end. Covid sucks the big hairy kumara.

So lots of rumours about a bubble announcement on Monday, potentially from mid-April...what are you guys hearing on the ground?
I wonder how quickly I can become an Oz citizen? I don't want to travel and then get caught in a border shutdown and not be able to get back into Oz.

Luckily I'm already an Oz citizen so escape that potential dilemma

So Kiwis cant get in to Oz at the moment?
I think we can but I'm not sure, I just wouldn't want to risk it with the govt over here ... I once walked past a guy who had just hopped off a Harley Davison.

My mate was telling me the vaccination super centre in Auckland has a capacity of 150 people per day? Surely that's not right?

Probably half right. Which is the best kind of right for rumours.
The country's first large-scale Covid-19 vaccination clinic opened in South Auckland today, marking another step forward in New Zealand's vaccine roll-out plans.
Director general of health Ashley Bloomfield said around 150 people a day will get vaccinated at the East Tamaki clinic initially.
"We plan to rapidly increase these numbers over the coming week," he said.
Two other vaccination centres will open in the coming weeks, one in West Auckland and one in central Auckland.
That's from a herald article from 2 weeks ago.

FUCK YOU JACINDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More flippancy on stealing time from everyone. I think we all understand that once the bubble opens, it will always be precarious. But I don't see why the work hasn't been done to give us dates now rather than making us wait another 2 weeks.

Meanwhile the UK vaccinate 8 people per second!

It would be madness to open a travel bubble at this point in time when fully vaccinated isn't that far away. Surely you'd have to expect it to close again within a couple of months.
I dont get that. We have 2 countries who have effective elimination. While both their borders stay shut to everyone else, why wouldn't you allow travel between the 2?
What you have to manage, is when you eventually open your borders to the rest of the world, and coordinate that in some way. Shouldn't be a show stopper.
-
@voodoo All the above is true, but it's not quite my point. There have been small outbreaks in both countries, and these will continue. What happens to the travel bubble then? My guess it immediately shuts and people on the other side of the ditch are stuck.
