Singapore are indeed back in lockdown. Schools closed gatherings of no more than 5. Borders closed. Tough shit if you already had a MIQ booking coz they've all been cancelled. Govt has asked everyone to stay home this weekend to avoid a circuit breaker total shut down.

Fuck!
How are they travelling on the vaccination front?

@voodoo 167 cases in last 6 days. No deaths since December. 1.852 Mill received first dose 1.2 Mill both doses.
I mentioned it mainly to show it's not just Australasian governments who are twitchy.
Damn. That's a pretty decent outbreak for a country of 5m I guess.

I read in article few days ago. That Australia's first repatriation flight from India, that 50% of the travellers tested positive, and had to be bumped off. Adding the close contacts of those, 70% got bumped off. Was about a 200 person booked flight IIRC.
Not sure if they could back fill, or had to fly at 50% capacity.
I've posted this in overall rather than Australian sub thread, as most stark point is the absolute spread must obviously be in India. But maybe that is positive as must show they are close to peaking.

Was from this article
Guardian Australia has confirmed that of the 150 vulnerable Australians booked to take the first repatriation flight home from India when the travel ban expires, more than 40 have tested positive to Covid-19. The number who will be unable to fly rises to more than 70 when you factor in the close contacts of those who have tested positive.
did fly half empty

And interesting article on how Mexican IT geeks /mathematicians dug out 'truer' covid death stats.
-
Bear with me, for another excess deaths article post.
Study by IHME, on their estimate of real global death toll. They have it as double official figures at 6.9 million up to May.
But what I found interesting, worthy of caution, is the are counting a huge amount of 'displaced / replaced' deaths rather than just crude excess deaths.
E.g
the UK, the researchers estimated, the true covid death toll up to May 2021 was not 150 519 as officially reported, but 209 661. They estimated the true US death toll at 905 289, compared with an official figure of 574 043.
The UK official figure of 150k is already higher than their excess deaths for same period is 117k.
Hence:
the IHME’s estimate of ... covid deaths is only possible if deaths from non-covid causes were fewer than usual over the past year.

It's interesting looking at the different response rates to vaccination. Those countries that went for elimination strategy have very sluggish vaccination rates. Taiwan being a good example of people simply not believing it's necessary if there's no obvious threat in their daily life and now paying the price.

That's incorrect. China's domination of the world means Taiwan's place at the bargaining table for vaccine access is not great.
Taiwan could not get the vaccine the population wanted , Moderna or Pfizer, and instead got Astra Zeneca's one (which has some widely reported side effects, even though it is probably not much different to the other other two) So people were waiting to get better vaccines.
Second, even of this vaccine, I don't know how much they got.
