High Voltage turns low voltage - Goodbye Brian, (thanks for 36 years) Hello Axl - AC/DC confirm new vocalist
-

So the rumours are true. It's tata Brian.

Like Tata Steel, and without so much as a spark, livewire frontman, Brian Johnson - THE voice that ignited AC/DC's second stanza, has been waved tata.

After 36 hell-raising, electrocuting, ear-splitting years, and as he himself had feared, Brian Johnson HAS indeed been "kicked to the curb" shelled like an unwanted peanut.

In a strangely monotone press release on their website, the band say:

"AC/DC band members would like to thank Brian Johnson for his contributions and dedication to the band throughout the years. We wish him all the best with his hearing issues and future ventures. As much as we want this tour to end as it started, we understand, respect and support Brian's decision to stop touring and save his hearing. We are dedicated to fulfilling the remainder of our touring commitments to everyone that has supported us over the years, and are fortunate that Axl Rose has kindly offered his support to help us fulfill this commitment.

Mrs Crash and I have tickets to the Rock or Bust London gig at Olympic Park in June, we were there at Wembley in 2015, (what a blast) on the 4th July, and desperately wanted to be there for the tour wrap up.

But I don't want to see Axl however - he is not fit to lick Brian's (or Bon's for that matter) boot laces. Therein lies the contradiction - I DO want to see the band grind out those timeless anthems, I have been a fan since I was a nipper, when my brother first introduced me to their firebrand style. I have nearly all their back catalogue and will follow them no matter what. But I feel cheated somehow.

Seriously Angus, you guys are not kids any longer - why couldn't you just take Brian aside and say - look mate, I don't like the way you do xx but lets just sort this out and get on with it - if you need some time out, that's cool, we'll reschedule tour dates for when you're able. Fans would have understood.

But this low-brow, dirty deed press release has left me thunderstruck. It's patently clear something is not right within the band. Members are dropping like flies, and the band is seriously in danger of sinking the pink, and becoming a comedic caricature of themselves.

Personally. I think Angus has sounded the band's own Hells Bell - the death-knell for AC/DC as we know it.

It definitely was Rock or Bust for Brian. More Bust than Rock.

Would like to know what others think.
-
I wonder if he will even make the stage on time?
Notorious for being 2 or 3 hours late to perform or simply not showing up at all( in there heyday often at gnr shows Slash or Izzy would take on lead vocals)
Not too mention he's an A grade prick... Wait maybe he will fit in? -

It is a funny one. I'm not surprised by the hatred on one level, on the Sound this morning the announcers mentioned a few groups that tried to continue with new singers, Queen, INXS etc but forgot fucken ACDC themselves. I thought Bon Scott was a sensational frontman, I think Brian Johnson is as well. If I was older than three years old in 1980 I'm sure I would have voiced serious doubts about them continuing but the proof is in the pudding and they went from strength to strength even though I preferred Bon, if only by a coat of varnish.

Axel does sound like a prick but he's one of the best rock frontmen of his era ( only matched but Chris Cornell and Mike Patton in my opinion ), the ACDC members all seem to be decent guys but I think enough is enough, they've had a run most groups would only dream of if having to deal with the inevitable rock death but with Rudds legal issues and Malcolm Young and Johnsons health issues surely they should call it a day ?
-

I would put myself down as one of GnR biggest fans, and I'm also a huge ACDC fan. But a hybrid of the 2 fans? God I don't think so. Maybe, just maybe at peak. But Axl hasn't sounded very strong for a very very long time.

Having seen ACDC lsat year, they just don't need a name like Axl Rose as the frontman. I think they would have done much better with a lesser known, but still seasoned powerful singer. Hell, even Jim Breuer could have done it. I think Myles Kennedy would have been a great choice. What about somebody like Rob Thomas, or Lukas Rossi (the bloke who won that rockstar supernova thing).

I'm actually coming to the conclusion that anybody other Axl Rose would have worked out better.
-

Not sure what John Bush (sang for Anthrax on their best album) is doing these days (or sounds like) but his throaty pipes would have been pretty good.

It's early afternoon but I'm gonna struggle to find something funnier than that today......

I love G'n'R and ACDC equally as well though and feel a hybrid might be an uneasy mix at best.
-

They need to just stop. The core members are now dead, deaf, have dementia, and trying to kill people.

They collectively make Ozzy Osbourne look healthy & coherant

.....and the other one made a career out of playing two notes in a steady eighth like fashion......
-

I figured there was just a massive "tour conclusion" bonus, Johnson has had some health issues and there's a lot of money at stake if they cancel the dates. But that's just a guess

Hope they laid down the law about Axyl's catchphrase punctuality. A mate went to the GnR gig in Vegas last week and Axyl didn't appear till after midnight
