I have had my first jab and will have the 2nd one in two months - hopefully Taiwan will allow mix and match of vaccines and let me have Pfizer for the 2nd one. Anyway, as far as I can see, me getting back to NZ depends on the speed of NZ's vaccination rate. So even if I am fully vaccinated, I will still have to be in quarantine until NZ is deemed protected enough.
You'll probably end up needed two Pfizers I think (that was situation for someone I know here). Edit : Hope not btw!
No. We had to have Astra Zeneca for the first dose over here in Taiwan.

Sorry, my point was that here you had to have two of the same vaccine, so we had a person come over who had got one AZ but they then needed to get two Pfizer’s (or Modernas, cant remember). In other words, can you get your second AZ?

@gt12
Thanks for letting me know.
Can you link me this story please? I might have to tell other foreigners over here.Only told about it by the person at work, who had to get the same one twice to get her certificate.
It could also be that because she got the first one overseas she needed to get two here in Japan?
So, sorry, only grapevine, and as you’ll get both locally they may allow you to mix and match.

So, does anybody on TSF have any sort of good oil on when things may actually change?
mate, was talking about this earlier today. I don't think it's going to change soon, definitely not this year, and possibly not next.
if you need to get into NZ, the big issue with your trip is not just the timing, but actually getting an MIQ slot . People are stuck overseas and can't get back to NZ. It's nuts.
good luck, it's a tough plcae to be. Kia kaha

This is what NZ's velocity looked like in an international comparison (The Economist, measuring % for over 12s)
This is not updated with today's data, will be interesting to look tomorrow to see if 4% of the country getting a jab (combined first and second jabs) in the last 7 days makes that line actually curve up. (Although this graph tracks only first jab)

@majorrage see, your major problem is you are not a professional rugby team. Being one of those is the easiest way to jump a border queue in Australasia
because our "caring" governments who only care about the "well-being and safety of their constituents" will absolutely make financial decisions if there are votes in it.
Or a Wiggle, become one of them and you’ll get over easy as.
-
@gt12 To be fair the government doesn't think it's OK. Hence the addition of Captcha within the last couple of weeks to try and even up the playing field.
@Donsteppa The booking process seems to have become much worse in the last six months. When my brother booked to come down in January it was easy as to book a spot about a month out. I have no idea why demand now so outstrips supply.
The 2 weeks itself. Really depends where you get. Again my bro found it a doddle nice big room, to himself, at the airport, plenty of room to exercise and he could work. CBD seems harder and I know one family - 3 in a room - young child - barely any internet - in RotoVegas....

I think there's been some wishful thinking over the last 18 months, very roughly - 'at some point most people who want to come home will have come home, and there'll be less pressure on the system soon'. Rather than the more complicated realities facing families, skills needs, urgent business, etc over time.

@rapido I went here https://covid19.govt.nz/covid-19-vaccines/how-to-get-a-covid-19-vaccination/find-out-what-group-youre-in/ the other day and it said was open from today, but I see they have amended the message to say open for anyone over 60
When I checked on the weekend it just said
You’re in Group 4 — you can get a vaccine from 28 July
You'll be able to get vaccinated at a range of places, including community vaccination centres, marae, churches, large workplaces and many GPs and pharmacies. At the moment, we're not offering the COVID-19 vaccine to people under 16.
But today changed to include
The vaccine rollout for Group 4 will be in age bands
The first age band is people aged 60 years and over — they can book their vaccination appointments now.
The next age band is people aged 55 and over — bookings for this age band will open on 11 August.
whereas this page https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-getting-vaccine/covid-19-vaccine-rollout#when has had better messaging all along, well form what I have read anyway

Does anyone know if we are offering folks coming through Q the vaccine if they want it?
@Donsteppa that is the crux of things isn't it. There are heaps of kiwi's who will continue to live and work overseas, even though a big whack of folks have moved back for good, or at least the next year or two. So we need to be geared up to manage that ongoing need for Q facilities, and seeing what measures can be put in place to let people move more freely.
@MajorRage bro if you make the call and manage to snare a spot I reckon we can set up some video calls and play fern bingo to keep you occupied... given we are all hot polish cam girls that should be fun!! or very confronting!

I think you may have had a cached page. The bit you are saying as 'new' has been there for quite a while. They announced those age bands weeks ago.
EDIT: which is a problem in itself if pages aren't refreshing for people.

@crucial different computers, so caching shouldnt be an issue.
I know that I read your 'change' at least a week ago.

Reality sucks sometimes. Sorry. Would love to be optimistic on this, but I can't see it.
That, and the horrific vaccination rates. We may soon see supply exceeding demand ... 140,000 people offered slots to book 15,000
-
No outbreaks. No people coming in. No chances of borders opening. no compulsion to go anywhere (proven by the very low numbers of bookings NZ to Aus). There is just no compulsion for kiwis to get a jab that has been slandered by media around the world.
We saw it in Aus, feet were dragged until they got a kick up the butt.

Nail on head. Current situation is a recipe for complacency.

One outbreak and every man and their dog will be queuing up and complaining about the slow service. Human f*cking nature
