What happens when presidential & vice-presidential candidates think making themselves feel and look virtuous is more important than doing the important stuff like actually thinking policies thru.
Telling the world separating families is evil and will be stopped and you will also provide free medical care. What could possibly go wrong?
Lone children at US border hit record high. A record 19,000 unaccompanied children were picked up trying to cross the border last month. Unaccompanied children caught trying to cross the Mexican border into the US are at record numbers and there is no sign of the usual summer slowdown. The American authorities picked up more than 19,000 in July, exceeding the previous monthly high of 18,877 in March, according to preliminary government figures. The June total was 15,253. The number of migrants who came in family groups is also likely to reach about 80,000 last month, up from 55,805 in June and its second highest total on record. Republicans have blamed the Biden administration for the new wave. It has reversed hardline measures put in place by President Trump, such as his “remain in Mexico” policy that required all asylum seekers to stay on the other side of the border while their case was assessed. President Biden also suspended construction of a more secure border wall commissioned by his predecessor. The US border authorities apprehended migrants about 210,000 times at the border last month, up from 188,829 in June and the highest in more than 20 years, David Shahoulian of the Department of Homeland Security, said. Preliminary numbers show that in the first 29 days of July there was a daily average of 6,779 people, including 616 unaccompanied children and 2,583 who came in families. The figures include some adults who are expelled at once and try to cross repeatedly. The rising numbers have strained holding facilities, with 17,778 people in custody on Sunday, despite a “Covid-19 adjusted capacity” of 4,706. The Rio Grande Valley sector in south Texas was holding 10,002 of them. A court challenge to end mass expulsions resumed this week. “We are deeply disappointed that the Biden administration has abandoned its promise of fair and humane treatment for families seeking safety, leaving us no choice but to resume litigation,” said Neela Chakravartula, managing attorney for the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies.

Why are some Americans so sensitive about govt mandates to wear a mask?
I've heard it claimed masks don't hinder spreading of the virus. Is this true?
They are like strophe teenagers claiming it's an impingement on their freedom.Because every single fucking thing becomes a left vs right debate over there. Athlete pulls out of Olympics? Left vs Right. Wear a mask so you don't spread the virus to others? Left vs Right.
Well at least that's what it seems. Given more than half the population don't even bother to vote I'd say most people don't have a strong opinion on it.

Hardly anyone on Twitter really. They have low active users and a shit tonne of bots.
It’s only important as a platform because tweets get trawled by desperate journalists for stories/click bait.
Facebook on the other hand is a monster.

Agree with Facebook.
But re: twitter, there must be a lot of desperate journalists:

But re: twitter, there must be a lot of desperate journalists:
300 million monthly active users on Twitter, almost 3 billion for Facebook.
Going back as far as 2017, 50 million of those Twitter users were identified as bots. A problem that’s only gotten worse.
Even that article above pointed out that 80% of the posts are made by 10% of the users.
So could be less than 200 million users and a noisy 20 million. Big fish in a small pond getting amplified by incompetent reporters.

I wonder why people are hesitant about the vaccine in the US?
God US politicians are so bloody irresponsible
And Biden and Harris are surprised that uptake has been glacial
Fucking idiots

Democrat Congresswoman defends billing the taxpayer for $70k of private security - so she can continue campaigning to defund the police.
If loons like this can get elected, the US is truly stuffed.

@frank I think there are several reasons. First, the goal posts keep getting moved. We were initially locked down to prevent overwhelming the health care system then it became about case numbers. Then further on it was if you get the vaccine then you’re golden now it means shit.
Second, half of the country don’t trust the left. They like control at all costs where the right wants less government intrusion.
Third, about half don’t trust the media and their incessant chicken little chatter and obvious bias towards the left. And the numbers are being revised down, not saying Covid is not significant, by about 20 percent.
Fourth, we like to be able to make choices about our health and don’t believe our lives should be restricted because the poor choices of others. The people who are dying are elderly for the most part and have health conditions. Everyone knows the stats by now. We have a lot of unhealthy fat people over here. Let’s focus on these people and don’t restrict the healthy. This is not to shame them but fact. The ones that have it bad and are able to return home usually lost 30 to 50 pounds in the process and usually are still overweight, from my experience.
Fifth, We don’t believe we have to walk around as if we are infected when we are not symptomatic. When will this concept end with the inevitable mutation of the virus in perpetuity.
Sixth, their are consequences for our present policies related to the neglect of other health issues (recent article about spike in ovarian/uterine CA, teen suicides etc etc), economic issues etc. Never once has the left considered the collateral damage.
Seventh, the lefts insistence that kids get vaccinated even though this virus is a nothing burger to them. Where is the science behind that? Why risk a vaccine which does have some negative side effects and has resulted in deaths.
Eighth, why are the left pushing vaccination if you already have had the virus when studies are showing that natural immunity is probably better. Now that’s a shocker. Our immune system actually can function.
Anyway that is part of my thinking and thinking of those with my point of view. I could go on but I think my take home message would be work on your health because this is the best protection against this virus.

So it looks as if the Taliban will take control of Afghanistan.
Oh well. Not unexpected after Biden's withdrawal announcement. He seems to be continuing Obama's "Speak loudly about Women's and Gay rights but carry a big Surrender flag" policy.
With China and the Taliban becoming chummy, I wonder how long it will be until China starts building it's first military base there?

China are welcome to it
It’s like medieval tribesmen found a time machine, travelled to the future, and the only thing they brought back was automatic weapons and electronic bombs

We've had over 150 years of trying to sort out the Afghanistan "problem". It seems like history is not high on the agenda of many governments worldwide.
