Coronavirus - UK

@tewaio As you point out, cases is misleading now in a mostly vaccinated population. Most of these are people registered with COVID have a cold or a mild cough that goes away after a few days.
Numbers to watch for in the UK is how many people with Covid either need GP assistance or to be sent to ICU. Capacity there is finite. If either gets too high we may see government action, probably on a local or regional rather than a national level.
-
That’s it right there isn’t it. Cases alone mean nothing, even deaths are not the issue (apart from the optics), it is the capacity for the infrastructure to cope.
What was it that Stalin said about deaths? Something like one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic?

It's always been about the breaking point.
We haven't increased capacity, therefore the breaking point hasn't changed.

Excellent, we have reached the point of quoting mass murderers. I will try and break with tradition and actually post something worth quoting.
Got to agree with the ideas above though. If people (post vax) aren't using up hospital beds and ICU then surely you just let it run. The whole point of lockdowns was to prevent the NHS getting overrun. What am I missing?
I'm going into full civil disobedience mode if they start that shit when we have a large proportion jabbed.

Well, I’ve quoted you before 😬

I think that the UK Government realise that. Less so Jimmy Krankie in Scotland.

And Chairman Mark in Wales

Here we fucking go

Anybody who thinks we won't face some winter restrictions this year / early next year is either naive or stupid.
I can't quite get my head around the numbers. Daily case numbers are massive although that by itself it not necessarily an issue if the approach is to live with it. Hospital admissions and deaths are obviously 'acceptable' at this stage although the %s are such that they wouldn't be in NZ (it would overwhelm or health system). To top this off it is all happening at the easy time of the year.
I get the 'live with it' approach and that the idea is to accept that COVID is another health issue that has to be dealt with like many others. It just still seems like the numbers of people that will need help are huge. -
Government sees sense / writing on the wall
No vaccine passports for England. Fuck knows for Scotland, NI and Wales

What's their plan if evidence of vaccination is required for overseas travel? That's what vaccine passports originally were for after all, and are hardly an unknown quantity even leaving Covid-19 aside e.g. Yellow Fever.

The article is talking about within England, e.g. to go to nightclubs or football matches.

Fair enough, but either they exist or they don't, and if they exist even for foreign travel, the option to use them for domestic purposes becomes available. Are they planning to ban that use entirely, or just leave decisions to private businesses?

My suggestion is they do the latter. Sooner or later we're going to have to learn to live with this as we do the flu.

Sounds like that's where they are going. Denmark has already gone there, so there's company for it.

They already exist. The NHS app has both my covid jab records with batch numbers etc and QR codes. Within the app there are separate options for displaying your "domestic" or "travel" NHS Covid Pass
-
Think it was more about the Government avoiding losing its footing on a very slippery slope.
Any half decent opposition could have made a case for vaccination without the necessity to ‘show your papers’ for everyday things.
Proof of vaccination to travel?
No problem, as has been mentioned it’s been around for generationsGoing to the pub, club, concert?
Vote loser big timeAs an aside, when I worked for one Australian owned company in Japan their policy was
Get free flu jab and be entitled to sick pay
Refuse free flu jab, no sick pay if you got ill -
Booster jabs to be rolled out next week in the UK in the same order as the vaccine roll-out.
Hardly a surprise - my health centre sent an email \bout this a month or so ago.
-
@victor-meldrew only for you old bastards

Chairman Mark introduces Vaccine Passport for Wales even though we’re 70% double jabbed; hospitalisations and deaths remain low; and we’re in Level Zero
Fuck off
