the subs won't be built until 2040 or so...
Yeah. China are shitting themselves...
I think the deal is far deeper than just building submarines. There's probably a shopping list of stuff the three parties would like from each other that will be kept pretty low-key.

The Yanks have pretty much what they want from us: long-range surveillance, land and sea ports, and a bulwark against Chinese expansion in the South Pacific.
The Poms just like pissing off the French.

One example: The UK is building up its navy but its warship-building capacity is full. Australia is building UK-design frigates so there's opportunities to share production.

Been noticeable that Boris and co have gone out of their way to be conciliatory to the French - and defence ties between the two countries are very, very close. A lot of the posturing is down to Macron realising he has limited clout in AsPac and the politics around an EU Defence force.
But it's quite fun pissing off the French. No-one does pique like them.

i saw france had recalled their ambassador, that seems very extreme, seems much bigger than an i thought

Ships still in their design phase. Ships already experiencing cost and schedule blowouts. These should be fucked off too.
One thing is becoming patently clear; the government lead by Malcolm Turnbull was beyond incompetent at procurement.

Well they brought this upon themselves. At some point they surely must have thought there'd be a reckoning once Australia worked out how shit the deal they'd agreed to was.

Gladys has just resigned after the NSW corruption watchdog announced they were investigating her

Gladys goorn amid corruption investigations
lol, yep giving any grants to previous boyfriends whether above board or not, was always going to trigger this
-
im surprised she hung around and put up with all the COVID shit for so long, the boyfriend stuff was suggest ages ago, i think i might have been tempted to use it as an excuse to get out of a no win job
-
In the context of covid management, I couldn't care less if she's as corrupt as Rex Jackson.
-
I am going to suggest like other politicians ego had a large part to play.

Three good premiers, no convictions (and none likely here). Why is a Federal ICAC a good idea again?
On the other hand: why has Gladys quit if she's got no case to answer? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
"Oh no! The ineffective commission that has apparently found nothing is onto me for nothing! I'd better quit.... "
