    @number-10 Geez, I should have put money on that! I was just talking about that with mates a few days ago, saying I wouldn't be surprised if James got the gig!

    No idea how he is as a coach, so I hope it works out well! Ozich is hard to replace.

    @number-10 Gee, we still continue to have an embarrassment of riches at hooker with Messrs. Kereru-Symes, Devery and now Thompson fighting it out. It is possible that one of the first two may have signed elsewhere.

    Oh, and this probably wouldn't have happened if he had signed with the Canes; so glad he's with another franchise!

    He barely got game time for Wellington, so not surprised he'd want out.

    The same with Ah Kuoi. Not signed by the Canes and leaves Wellington too.

    @dice Yep, 18 caps in two seasons, but almost all (if not all) via the bench. Crazy they rated the coke sniffer higher.

    Now, he'll compete with Kereru-Symes and Devery (assuming both will be back). K-S the most experienced of the three, but Thompson may be the most talented. It will be an interesting battle for the 2 and 16 jersey.

    Not a big surprise there as he was never going to oust J. Blackwell if they decided he was a lock nor R. Prinsep if they decided he was a blindside at the Canes.

    Great to see the passion and pull of home is still strong. I get the shakes everytime I enter McLean Park such is the attachment I have for the ground. I even try to drive down Latham Street and past the main gates on the way back from town to where I am currently staying just to feel the vibe of the place.

    Sweet, so we have 10 players in the Chiefs v MP match now.

    Although, does this mean we lose one of Kereru-Symes and Devery? Still think Kereru Symes has huge upside.

    @nepia Thompson takes Dixon's spot, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Wellington tries to poach Devery, now that he's a Cane.

    Hmm, I think I missed Apikotoa in my first count.

    @stargazer They already have D. Coles and A. Aumua so he would still be in pod of three, except two of the three (four if you count the coke snorter/touch judge abuser who is currently a Bay of Plenty player) are All Blacks. Furthermore he would be dropping from the Minor Premiership Champions to one of the lesser also rans! Incidentally is Mr. Devery there on an injury replacement only contract or a full time one as the Canes Roster showing on their website earlier today and the initial squad announcement show only Coles, Aumua and the Snorter as hookers?

    Jacob Devery posted this on instagram. That looks serious and it may take some time for him to be playing again.
    The Magpies might be looking for a third hooker, behind Thompson and Kereru-Symes. With Gene Syminton having gone up north, I wonder who the next in line is/is going to be ...?

    From the article below that @Higgins posted in another thread:

    6 June 2022 (Queen's Birthday): preseason game against Manawatu in Pahiatua;
    29 June 2022: Ranfurly Shield game against South Canterbury in Napier;
    15 July 2022: preseason game against Waikato in Tokoroa;
    22 July 2022: preseason game against Auckland in Cambridge;
    30 July 2022: Ranfurly Shield game against Poverty Bay in Napier.

    According to the article, 28 players had already been re-signed by the end of December 2021.

    At least 40 got game time in shield or NPC matches for the Magpies last year, and expectations are a similar number will be needed this year.
