The squad was named earlier today:

Kane Williamson (c), Will Young, Tom Latham, Hamish Rutherford, Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Tom Blundell, Colin de Grandhomme, Rachin Ravindra, Cam Fletcher, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Ajaz Patel, Blair Tickner, Jacob Duffy, Trent Boult.

The extended squad will cover the unavailability of the five members playing in the Indian Premier League who will likely miss the two warm-up matches in May. The squad will be reduced to 15 ahead of the first test starting at Lord’s on June 2.

Interesting to see Kens son return from the wilderness.

Even with the return of the old warhorses Anderson and Broad England are still pretty shit. All they have going for them is playing at home.

Very few would make a combined BC/England team ( but then again you could say the same about the Bangladesh team and look what happened there so what do I know ? )

With KW back and hopefully fit I think the BCs should win the series.

I think we’d take Ben from Christchurch as our all rounder wouldn’t we?

Cam Fletcher licks lips hope he gets a go. Time to move on from Blundell. Great innings against Aussie to score 100 but you can’t get automatic selection from there on.

Probably although CDGH still manages to fluke some decent numbers at test level.

    Root walks in too obviously

Bloody awkward hours to watch live - 10pm starts in the tests... so will only watch the first sessions, then look at the highlights the next day.

Nah mate, that would be burning too many candles 😄
Are you going to try to watch every session ?

I'd love to. But normal life will get in the way. When we played the warmup games in England last year I think I stayed up until about 2am every night. And on the final day of the WTC I was up until 3am until sanity intervened

Yeah, would be brilliant to watch all those sessions - Test cricket is a great watch, it's about battles within battles... unfortunately as you say it would be too difficult & exhausting, you'd be completely knackered for the whole day, pretty much impossible to do that 5 days in a row, especially if you have a job.

Yup. I agree, the way test cricket is played these days, I can't think of another game that can keep you enthralled for that long. We really are in a golden age for test match cricket

@canefan Over the last several years we have built really good depth, that was shown when we won the Test World Championship... we were pretty erratic in our home test series against the Banglas & South Africa, our blokes need to get back to playing consistently well, starting with the series against the Poms.

I've almost completely given up cricket in the last few years - mainly due there being way too much of the stuff. But I'm planning to watch this series to see if I can get my interest back.

The Black Caps batting coach(es) and psychologists don't seem to do much these days - except possibly watching from the stands with a few beers.

Similar to the home summer, in the two warm-up games the Black Caps top order fronted in one game, and then spent the other game metaphorically in the pub. Kane spent much of the IPL batting like it was a test match series, but unfortunately his form didn't carry through.

At one stage we were 9/5, and then 19/6 against a county team. https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/new-zealand-in-england-2022-1276891/first-class-counties-xi-vs-new-zealanders-tour-match-1311520/full-scorecard

Blundell with match scores of 8 & 0.

After our home summer, highlighted by the capitulation to the Bangles, no one should be feeling too upbeat. The lineup looks decidedly shaky. Latham blows hot and cold, Nicholls scares me, and Blundell has not kicked on at all

Must be because of how crap England are……

I mean in cricketing terms a Black Caps ticket is the hottest in town right ?
