Dang 13 days!
Been doing some experimentation with food to arrive at (for me) optimal diet/eating habits. Trick is to find a heap of food to eat that doesn't impact on the guts, mood or performance. As I have noted, I tend to get carried away when I really start chomping.
Found 3 "hacks" that are pretty damn good. The first is a serious face palm moment and one I should have been aware of decades ago, i.e. warm oats up with lots of water in the microwave. 4 min in the microwave then add protein powder and almond milk or water, then another 2 min. Add blueberries and that produces an overflowing bowl of goodness.
2nd is just basically taking 500g of chicken breast or turkey breast mince, mixing it with a shit ton of broccoli and cauliflower, adding wholegrain mustard (and also maybe eggwhites). You then flatten that out, chuck in the air fryer and it's two ridiculously healthy and delicious main meals. Can also add cheese to the top as well. The chicken breast one in particular is very low calorie. My kids even eat this one so it must be OK.
Protein icecream. Heap of ice in blender, some liquid (almond milk, water, sugar free softdrink) to just below the ice level, protein powder and spoonful of xanthan gum. Blend that mofo until it creates ice cream then mix with no sugar topping. Makes an absolute shit tonne of ice cream. Can also add frozen berries etc.
This shows that you can eat a metric shit tonne of food if you choose the right food. Doesn't have to taste like shit either. Will add the macros for these if I can be arsed later.

Training going pretty well. Starting to really ramp up the swimming. Going 4km during the morning sessions which was unheard of not that long ago.
Sunday half marathon continues to be an absolute cnut but once I taper I reckon I'll start feeling less like shit when doing it. Have decided that my long distance running days will be over when I'm don't with the 21/42 weekend. I'm going to buy a bike and use the stupid number of bike paths out here. None of that Lycra-clad bullshit or offroad, cattle track nonsense. Just long rides taking advantage of the bike paths my taxes paid for and few people seem to use. My knees will thank me

That resting heart rate is ridiculous !!!! Talk about fit as a fiddle.
Mine is about 60 odd but can shoot up way higher on account of my niggly issue that I have.

Bit more sleep would be nice but can't complain. That niggle must suck but I assume it's no issue if you're careful. Are you completely off the energy drinks? I don't think I've touched them since you reported what happened?

I haven’t had any issues lately. I’ll have a black coffee every weekday morning and will often have two in the weekend. Completely off energy drinks, kombucha is my friend now !
I need to watch spirits as well but as long as I take it easy on them everything seems to be going swimmingly!

Been absolutely smashing it in the pool recently. Have really turned a corner and it's not agony every time I get in. Becoming seriously addicted. Wednesdays is 4km in the morning and 2km in the evening!
Weather has been absolute rat sheet here for weeks and being a massive poosey I did the half marathon on the treadmill. Fark that was boring. But - captain obvious time - was so much better on the knees and legs. I really get the point now. If I want to run for decades to come this machine is my destiny I reckon.

I'm not sure if I respect or feel sorry for somebody that can run that long on a treadmill. Isn't the treadmill the same as using a weight machines vs a free weights? It's been years since I stepped foot in a gym so not sure what the current thinking is, but I know it certainly used to be that free weights were much better.
I love running outside and would happily run in a blizzard as opposed to a treadmill inside. All part of it.

It isn't about preference or choice but potential necessity. I'd love to run outside until the end of time, but the difference in what it does to the body is absolutely massive, particularly in the very hilly area I live in. My knees get farked. Just a reality unfortunately. Got to adapt.

With running on a treadmill being so repetitive is that really better for you? As the impact is going to be centralised in exactly the same place every single time. Is that really better for you?
There is no doubt that the risk of twisted ankles etc is higher, but when you are going up / down hills round left/right corners isn't the impact spread out a bit more and thus less wearisome?
Genuine questions, and it seems my assumptions here are incorrect.

But the impact is much less, especially if running on a road. All I know is the difference has been massive for me.
There's also an old dude I chat to at the gym on Saturday mornings (he's like 75 and trains at 4am). He looks ridiculous for his age and swears by the treadmill for having enabled him to maintain his fitness. Buggered if I know what the science says but he's pretty damn good empirical evidence!
Ultimately, I would much prefer to run outside, but I don't want to be in pain every time I walk up stairs. Maybe I just have really weak Lil bitch knees 🤔

Very good week training wise, particularly in the gym. Feel I've been phoning in the weights sessions a bit recently and want to make them count.
Was my youngest son's birthday on Thursday and looking through old photos kind of farked me up so went on a 14km run. Was very smooth and more importantly made me feel much better. Exercise really is the best medicine when done right.

Fark 2 weeks. Hammering along.
Less than a month until the weekend of pain. Am going to simulate it a bit this weekend with 15km on Saturday and 30km on Sunday. I will get up and run according to the scheduled starting times as well. Actually quite looking forward to it but it will be fooking hard. Supposed to have lunch and beer with some mates on Sunday. Will be interesting to see what state I'm in

Fair bit of training recently. Marathon prep was bloody tough. The 20km on Saturday was fine but due to stupid unnecessary 15km run the previous Thursday meant that I had a repetitive strain injury on my left lower leg heading into Sunday. Was very concerned when I got up that morning and it was hurting pretty much the entire way, but absolutely pumped that I still managed 32km. Now I can start tapering for this mofo. Feeling very confident now.
Pulled up remarkably well the next day. Shoulder day in the morning then swimming that evening. Was freezing so when nuts early to get warm and just kept it up. Definitely the fittest I've ever been in my life and I'm loving it. Pity it took 43 years and enough junk food and alcohol to shame an American.

Yeah better late than never I reckon……..then again lots of guys are terrific in their youth and go the other way. Look at Match fit for evidence of that.
your numbers above are incredible !

Yeah I've seen that alot, particularly among swimmers. Farking Adonis/Greek God while competing then completely gone to pie. My current coach (the aptly named Hitler) is unrecognisable from when I first met him about 6 years ago. He's only like 23 now as well! Not hard when you eat 5000 plus calories a day but no longer offset it with crazy amounts of exercise.
