@MiketheSnow I've not watched any trailer, I don't cos they spoil so much nowadays. But the fact there were actors actually doing scenes under g in cockpit, unlike 1, is awesome. They built themselves up in differing aircraft, and did the shots with 6 in cockpit cameras, in between puking, and came down knackered and drenched in sweat. Tom cruise maybe a nut job, but he knows about doing your own stunts, and all the others had to follow his lead.
There's no movie that has anywhere near portrayed in cockpit action adequately, so I'm looking forward to just seeing that.
Always funny how after people get a backseat trip, like engineers and air traffic controllers (was most often in Falklands, 2 every Friday), how fucked they were on landing, and that was with very limited maneuver allowed. Literally had to lift a few out at the end.
I thought Tom Hardy and the other blokes did a great job of this in Dunkirk !!!!
Nope that was utterly laughable, almost as unrealistic as some soldiers not saying a word to each other for hours despite what they went through. Dunkirk was art house, I reckon despite all the hoorah bullshit top gun 2 will almost certainly have, it will not have to try too hard to be more realistic then Dunkirk. Was cool to see real planes tho
Having never been involved in a dogfight in any kind of plane whatsoever I’m certainly no expert……but I thought that part of the movie was really well done.
It all took far too long, when he's on the tail of the 109, it is just waffting back and forth. In a dogfight you're pulling you max G, if you don't the enemy will and will stuff you. In addition, you don;t reverse your turn often (specific reasons to do so) otherwise you're just turning in front of the enemy - bye bye. It was all very meh. And don't get me started on how long the Spit with a dead engine stayed airborne without losing height, fuck he could've landed back in Kent! That was right up there with 'behind enemy lines' dodging the SAM awful and unrealistic
Have you even seen Midway?

3.5 Mads out of 5 Madcap Shoot Em UpsHow have I only just gotten around to watching this?
Polar
As SnowyMike says: Mads doing mindless shoot-em-up- Tit-watch: 1 spectacular pair of Belarusi fun-bags riding cowgirl. My favourite of the cattle-related rides.
- Plot: starts off with standard "assassin wanting to retire, 'the Company' won't let him, guess what happens next..." - and... yeah, not really much more than that except some bells/whistles
- Style: ridiculous. Mixture of dark/brooding whenever Mads Mikkelsen is on-camera, and flashy-flashy wacky ADHD costumes whenever George Dawes is on the scores.
- "Twist": still not really sure about that. Doesn't seem plausible (re: who knew who was who). But it's basically a fucking big comic-book action movie (is it actually based on a "graphic novel"? I dunno, can't be arsed typing a couple of words into the AskJeeves) - so... fuck it, belief suspended... bring on the teased sequel.
In summary: loved the tits, enjoyed the comic-book-style shoot-em-up romp, didn't even mind the occasionally long-winded brooding/sulking context-setting bullshit, couldn't argue with the extreme violence, wouldn't avoid.
Agree with 3.5 dark brooding Danes out of 5 silly over-acting Brit-twats. -

Agree with 3.5 dark brooding Danes out of 5 silly over-acting Brit-twats.As if being in Star Wars, Bond and the Hannibal series wasn’t enough old mate Mads went up even more in my estimation when he was interviewed and basically said method acting ( as made famous by Daniel Day Lewis and Jared Leto ) is a load of shit.
As he said when preparing for his role in Hannibal….what was he going to do, go out and kill a bunch of people ?

Great actor but sounds like a dick.
When making my left foot he apparently never left the wheelchair and insisted that the crew carried him everywhere. He also caught pneumonia during Gangs of New York because he wouldn’t wear a coat because they ‘didn’t exist in the 1800s’
What a drongo.

Not to mention that the Spitfire Mk 1 had only 350 rounds of ammunition for each of the .303 Brownings.
Enough for @ 20 seconds of continous fire, but in the movie............ -

On the subject though how do you rate Saving Private Ryan ?repeated viewings of Commando and some of Arnies dubious combat tactics were probably not the best preparation to watch that opening scene and how ruthless it was……

Twister
Another in a long line of shit 90s movies. Inexplicably this raked in the money when it was released. Bad CGI, hammy acting, caricature characters not helped by a ridiculous script.

Yeah it's a shocking start. Bloody Omaha was terrible, but I think they went a little over the top with number of guys shot right in the forehead! But I seem to remember some of the first wave companies having 95% casualties, so probably pretty close. Overall, on the first day, one in 10 or 12 were casualties, but the first lot asho took a big portion of that

I remember our guide at Utah beach saying how the allies sent their inferior units straight into the teeth of the German defences, which allowed the crack units a chance to outflank them on the fringes. Looking at archival photos of the landing beaches, and the bodies in the water, I think it is a strong representation of what happened on D-day. What a harrowing opening sequence

I really liked Dunkirk and thought the artistic license OK to tell the story.
As an aside, apparently a Spitfire could glide long distances (15+ miles) but only at around 120mph and certainly not be able to turn as Hardy did. link here. Still a cool scene though.
Thought Midway was a bloody great film too.

I'm not sure about that, tbh, I'd call bollocks. But the landings were so messed up where they landed, they were just random where they landed. And they mostly hit a sandbar/bank 200 metres from the actual shore.
As to spit glide, yes a long way, but not from 1000'! The movie was so art house/pose hard, and unrealistic I didn't enjoy it at all. Especially when it took itself so seriously yet was comedic in is lack of realism, unlike an action romp. Within the first few minutes my wife and I were going WTF about the lack of talking by the soldiers, just dumb. Cinematography was great tho

The worst part about Dunkirk was the lack of people on the beach because of Nolan's dickish no effects rules he sometimes applies.
In saying that I quite enjoyed it as a film.
