This ref is out of his depth. He let so many fouls go and then pulls that one up.
The positive is that after a terrible start we are well in this game, dominating possession and creating chances. This didn't happen against Peru. We just need some quality in front of goal.

Awful refereeing team - get top level officials for a game of such importance. Early goal was the sucker punch as CR never really threatened again. As usual NZ with not quite enough quality when required. Rojas, Sarpreet Singh the 2 who are most missed for quality.

True. But getting a legit goal disallowed hurt us

From the highlights I saw, NZ were absolutely shafted by the ref / VAR there. They should just ditch VAR altogether at this point, it's excruciating to watch. At least when it was just the refs fucking up in real time you could think maybe his vision was obstructed

The first VAR incident was incredibly contentious. I have no doubt the referee was fearful of consequences of letting the goal through in a game in which the minnows were clearly rattling the bigger team. The other way, I'm sure it wouldn't have been ruled out. I've got no idea how VAR works or how far they can go back, but surely a 50/50 incident a few passes before the goal is out of the realms of VAR.
I no problem with the red card though - it looked nasty in real time & slow mo. Reid last his head on after that though, which I sort of don't blame as when the game has two var decisions of which both go against you, effectively ruling you out of a game in which you are unexpectedly getting the better of.

The problem was that the ref swallowed his whistle for so many other fouls in the 1st half. One example was Garbett getting taken out mid-air. I don't think the Wood incident was a penalty. If Barbarouses gets a red, which was fair enough, then how did the ref ignore a similar foul on an All White a little later (at least a yellow) or Greive getting an elbow to the head?
I am happy to see Hay calling FIFA to task about the quality of the officials. None of these locals should be at the WC.
