@Crazy-Horse I hear ya! we had some cabling bumped during ceiling insulation installation and I've just plugged another HDMI to the tv and am bypassing the stereo. Works fine but is a hassle when I want to crank some music and the tv doesn't cut it. I can't deal with in-ear headphones and no way we are splashing out on new tech till the kids get older!

I capped out at a UE Megaboom speaker and Bluetooth connection. Anything more complicated than that and I'm no good.

It's overwhelming aye. And to make it worse my preferred ways of listening to music (CDs and USB) have been pretty much consigned to the scrap heap. The idea of streaming does my head in. I like flicking between songs and albums on my USB way too much.

Yeah some sort of Bluetooth speaker that I can link to my computer will be the way to go I suppose. That way I can still use my USBs. I struggle to get my head around how the single speakers can provide a good sound. I have been told they do though.

I was going to mention it during the game, but the ref Nick Bryant looked a dead ringer for old Ron Swanson on the weekend. If I wasn't such a Ron myself I would post some pictures for ya.

Hey fackers.
I recently bought the Google Pixel 6a - a bargain at $599.
However, going to plug in my headphones this morning I realised it lacks a headphone jack.
The Google Pixel Pro earbuds are $299. Fuck that.
The Google Pixel-A series earbuds don't have ANC. So fuck that.
Recommendations for a set of buds that have ANC and support calls etc appreciated.
I've got the Sony wf-sp800n that I got for a good price, not the loudest but loud enough with anc, ambient sound, waterproof and the ability to switch modes depending on your location. Good touch control for volume, skip/rewind/pause and google assistant.

Just got my olds a couple of pairs of these though, which seem great value.

I have been on the streaming train for a few years now. My listening is rarely done at high quality levels these days so the quality suits me fine.
Access to anything I want at any time all through a search. Even music I own gets the added value of accessing premium re-releases and extended versions.
I guess it depends on your hardware and listening habits but it’s pretty easy to connect most systems to a streaming controller or voice these days -
one thing i forgot about the jabra's (maybe common now) is they have "hear through" so the opposite of ANC, turns them into effectively a hearing aid, quite handy when on the bike for things like traffic and on the rare occurrence when im in the office and dont want people sneaking up on me

Yeah Sony does ambient, other brands do things like invisible mode, etc. I can't have buds without that function as I wear them at the gym and get nauseated if I can't hear my surroundings. Good for cycling and running too.

For any that are interested, the new iOS 16 includes personalised spatial audio if you’re using AirPods. To set it up you have to let your iPhone scan your head and ears. My go-to for checking out headphones is Van Morrison's Moondance, and in this case, gimmick or not, the results are like the fat old turd is beaming music straight into your fucking head. Try it out if you’ve got the kit.
It's cool, I've been using that for a fair few years with SXFi gear from creative. Officially Pronounced sexyfi, I shit you not. It's pretty cool, I have a little usb sound card version that you can plug into any device, phone, PC, iPad, whatever. But that's wired.
I use the Sony XM4 buds, they are amazing, especially when playing HD audio

Settled on these - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/jabra-elite-5-anc-true-wireless-in-ear-headphones-titanium-black
Jabra Elite 5. Have ANC and hear-through which were the main things. Kind of hard to get used to if I'm honest, in terms of them just sitting in my lugs but the sound is good and they were $199, which I can live with (having been paid my annual bonus yesterday )
Just trying to figure out how to remove Google Assistant so I can go back to using left/right for volume up/down.
EDIT: Ah I see - need to hold it down for longer....

I did what I thought I'd never do and deliberately bought a smaller phone. In this case iPhone XR => iPhone 13 mini. I hesitated with buying the standard 13 (mainly because of battery life differences), but I never liked the way the XR took up all the space in a jeans pocket (wallet in the other), meaning keys went into back pocket. So far I'm pretty happy, the phone certainly has top-notch specs. You do need to charge at least once a day and if you spend a lot of time watching movies or scrolling through documents it's a little tiring. But the phone is very light and takes up a lot less space. If battery ever becomes an issue, there is the magsafe batteries. Anyone else deliberately gone smaller??

@Billy-Tell I have been using SEs for years for the smaller format and ease of carrying around. The wife has just brought a 13 mini for the same reason.
My work phone is “standard “ size and if I have it on me I do tend to use it for reading news/fern etc on the train but I still like the smaller format for general calls and messages, music playing while working outside etc

I really like Face ID now which SE doesn’t have. If I’m honest I’d take a slightly larger phone but there is nothing between 5.4 and 6.1 in the apple range. I suspect they might bring out an SE/mini hybrid next time round.

I like face ID for general use but found print ID by far the easiest for Apple Pay and when in London that was my biggest phone use. Tube fares, payments, at the pub.....it just seems like you are in more control with a thumbprint and it is single step.

@Billy-Tell I'm an android user and used to have a Nokia 5, which was perferct in size (5.2in screen) & performance for my use. When it eventually died, I hoped to buy a similar size phone, but couldn't find a small android phone in the lower price range. I now have an Oppo that is bigger (6.5in) and, although it's a good phone, I find it too big. I guess I'll get used to it, but I can't wear it in my pockets anymore, meaning I sometimes forget my phone because it's lying around somewhere.
