Chillis

@MN5 Getting the water right is the critical factor in the germination. What are you germinating them on?
If they feel dry I'd give them a light mist from a spray bottle.
I always leave a few chillis on my bushes and have a fair degree of success with self germination, but Wellington is probably too cold for that, given you want to give the plants as long a growing season as possible to develop flavour in the fruit.
Any hint of a frost and it’s good night nurse if they aren’t under a shelter.
I have a rocoto manzano that is about 8 years old. The half that is exposed dies off each winter but the other half that is under the eve grows splendidly.
My favourite flavour of chilli but heat can be variable from nuclear to quite pleasant to eat fresh in a salad

Growing them in the little dirt things that came in the package. Pic for reference !

@taniwharugby My chillis' are just planted out in the vege garden.
I thought you were the winterless north? I haven't had a frost at my place in 27 years.

@taniwharugby Whangarei has an airport
Seriously Air NZ to Akl and an airline with a well dodgy safety record to the Barrier, Hamilton and Tauranga.
Anywhere else?

@dogmeat yeah mate, shes a rocking provincial airport that often closes due to fog, and they want to move it a foggier spot...
... a rocking provincial airport on a peninsula that can't be extended right! And a long way from SH1.
Nothing is as foggy as New Plymouth airport. That place gets fogged in all. the. time.

@nzzp yep, well up the end of the Harbour right now....but as always, council failed to do due diligence, bought up land, and have recommended a move, but are now looking at recording weather data for a possible move in 10 years....TBH, it wont impact me directly, and may even improve some of the infrastructure out my way, but as always,, council miss the mark in getting to decisions.

@MN5 well you are trying to grow chillies in Welly, weather was always gonna be a factor!
I can’t fault that logic
