Kearns whinges again
-

I've heard this thing about 2 World Cups and no thank you to the opposition a few times now, must be the G&GR forum trying new material now Richie is retired.

I was at the 2011 Final - there were no speeches by Richie or any of the players. Yes, there were interviews with Ted and McCaw with Ian Smith in the corner of the ground that were piped in over the loud speaker (the "I'm absolutely shagged" comment). But they were interviews, not prepared comments - and probably not broadcast on anything but the host feed. Pretty sure the same thing happened in 2015, it's all pomp, streamers, big wigs from the IRB and 'The World In Union' turned up to 11 on stage. The sideline men grab them for comments afterwards. I'm not sure exactly what Richie could have done beside saying "I'm sorry Prince Harry, and Imma let you finish but..."

As for Coles - similar thing, seems like he was answering the questions Wilson asked him. That wasn't an open mic for him to say anything.

Had the Canes lost though Kearns can sleep safely in the knowledge that we would have honoured them in the true Aussie style of voting one of the Canes players MoTM.
-

Exactly. If they invited him up on stage to say a few words then you'd definitely expect some acknowledgement of the oppo, but when it's just answering questions then give them a break. As usual Kearns is just looking for excuses to insult NZers. It's a shame because I generally find those Fox guys really good, certainly better than our Justin. Maaaaaaaarrrrdo can fark off though. -

I shouldn't laugh but it's Phil Kearns so there's no real reason not to. -

It would have been ideal if Coles had mentioned the Lions as his opposite had done, but I'm sure they didn't really give a shit and there would have been handshakes and mutual congratulations over hot soup in the sheds after. It's only the public and or desperate members of the media who get the shits about stuff like that

Of all the ways to do it, his is the lowest. If you judged him on nothing other than his public utterances, he is the bitterest fluffybunny when it comes to Trans- Ta$man rugby that has ever strapped on a pair of boots. One doesn't expect him to be effusive in his praise of another country, but he doesn't need to be a negative arseclown every time because you have to ask what purpose does it serve? Getting people who make videos on GAGR interested in rugby or the league/ AFL/ Netball viewer?
-

would there have been a function after, where they thank the ladies in the kitchen?

Disappointing lack of acknowledgement from the Hurricanes I agree. Would have liked to see TJP standing over the Lions 9 Faf de Klerk screaming "1 MORE YEAR" at the very least.

Australian swimmer Mack Horton, 20, may have emerged onto the world stage by winning gold in the 400m freestyle, but it was his baiting of Chinese rival Sun Yang in the lead-up to the race – when he accused Sun of being a "drug cheat" – that captured the world's attention and dominated the headlines after day one of the Olympics.

After his win on the opening night, Horton revealed his aggressive appraisal of Sun was a deliberate ploy to get into the head of his main rival, while at the same time defending clean athletes.

Earlier, Horton and Sun had an altercation at the training pool. When asked about it, the Australian was unabashed in claiming Sun had tried to splash and taunt him, but that he had "no time or respect for drug cheats".

Sports fans haven't been shy in coming after the Australian for his aggressive tactics, the Chinese in particular bombarding Horton's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, demanding he apologise to Sun.

The Wikipedia entry for the Australian swimmer was also modified to say that Australian media coverage of his race win "significantly advanced Australian 'fair' – the fair skin of Caucasian Australian [sic]".

"His remarks of Sun is widely believed to be a part of his cultural heritage in that he was practically nursed race prejudice at his mother's breasts [sic]," the page read before it was re-edited.

Horton's post-race celebratory Instagram photo was also flooded with comments from Chinese fans, with some demanding an apology and calling the Aussie a "snake".

"Although you have to the gold medal, but no matter how much you get the piece because of your character you will always be a loser at least respect you should have! Please apologise to Sun Yang! [sic]," one user wrote.

"Good for you to win the game! But please figure out the truth before you speak bad things about others," another commented.

Sun served a three-month ban for testing positive to trimetazidine, a substance normally used to treat angina.

Sun claimed the medication was prescribed for heart palpitations, saying he was unaware it had been placed on the banned list.

yeah I think Gregan just carried himself on the park with that air of arrogance, that 4 more years added to his level of arrogance, but yeah, pretty much disliked him because he was so good and probably epitomized that confident/arrogant swagger that Aussies have when they are up there.

Since his retirement, it hasn't been that bigger surprise to find out he is a top bloke off the park (similarly Marshall when I hear him anywhere but the comms box)
