Just discovered these guys the other day. It's an Australian panel but have top notch analysis, they are fair, constructive and put the 360 clowns to shame. Arguably the best rugby discussion panel going around atm. Check them out.

@akan004 thanks I enjoyed that. Some good comments. They were genuine and quite insightful. None of the controversy for controversy sake that you see on TV panel shows.

Djuro was the Waratahs' press guy for a while. Kimber is always pretty good value. Good combination

I've been listening to the Ruggamatrix podcast for about 7 or 8 years and it's a great in that it offers a different perspective than most podcasts, because of Djuro Sen's media background and the quality of guest he used to get on. A lot of weeks you'd have both Ewen McKenzie and Les Kiss (Aussie who was defense coach of Ireland now Director of Rugby at Ulster). And they'd also get high profile guests in. Unfortunately over the last couple of years it's gotten pretty sporadic, sometimes going months at at time. However, they've been pretty on to it for the last month.

They haven't had guests on too much lately. However, the three hosts are pretty in-the-know (Mark Cashman is usually on too). They had a guy last week. I can't remember his name but he's the guy who wrote that column that everyone climbed into about Aus ditching Super Rugby and getting back to the grass roots. He was actually really good value, I thought.

This podcast cares a lot about Australia Rugby, to the point that they're not afraid to put the boot in a little in searching for answers. They care about the sport too, and are often very complimentary about NZ rugby.

I saw this and was impressed thought it was good. Are there any suggestions for good New Zealand rugby podcasts?

@DMX NZ podcasts never stick around reliably for too long. NZ Herald put a podcast on Soundcloud called 'Out of the Box' with Nigel Yalden and a few other journos/commentators... but it's sporadic.

On Soundcloud I follow TAB Trackside Radio's The Kick Off... and they occasionally put the rugby shakedown interview with Nisbo or TJ on there: https://soundcloud.com/trackside-radio

The Front Row Rugby podcast is Australian, but hosted by a couple kiwis.

Oh, and if you play Fantasy Rugby, the Fantasy Rugby Draft podcast is pretty reliable.

Those All Blacks training camps during the SR season sound like a really bad idea. It could seriously affect teams' season.

                              @stargazer From the podcast:

Apparently there will be three of them, and players will need to attend two. Players involved will not be available to train with their super rugby teams until the captain's run, if their game is in NZ. If they are supposed to tour South Africa, then they will not be available at all.

Super Rugby coaches are not happy ...

Mils and Stevenson both confident about the Blues. Well, I certainly hope that's justified.

I'd like to hear more specifics but it's obvious that Sumo being well sourced has heard of Super Rugby coaches bitching about these camps.

If it seriously disrupts team preparation for the NZ derby games, then that will really cheapen the competition.

Apparently they haven't done this since 2007.

I am hardly the best person to argue about the impacts of this thought, given i didn't even remember who won the comp last year, and i have zero faith in the Chiefs even making the playoffs.

Not surprising. Actually there was no Super Rugby tournament last year.

Podcasts: The Shortball with Scotty Stevenson and Mils Muliaina.

                                              Season 3 - Episode 2 - Concurrent sevens tournaments are a must
Scotty and Mils settle into 2018 and talk all things rugby directly into your ears. Are Super Rugby coaches about to finally stand up to the long arm of the All Blacks management? Whatever the case, the boys show them some much deserved love. Discussion is had on the benefits and the drawbacks of hosting concurrent tournaments for the womens and mens sevens, and just how to make it work for everyone.

                                              Season 3 - Episode 3 - Hamilton’s big weekend
Scotty's ventured to Pyeongchang for three weeks so the mic's been passed to James McOnie for the mean time on The Short Ball. Mils and James chat about the Hamilton Sevens, a bonus for the Black Ferns, and what does the Westmere housing market have to do with footy?

Season 3 - Episode 4 - Is the Blues tens victory a sign of things to come?
Scotty is still in PyeongChang so once again James McOnie joins Mils at the mic. They talk to Bundee Aki about the Irish rugby atmosphere, how the Blues are shaping up as a potential team to beat this super rugby season, and who does James think could be the first 'hybrid' All Black?

Season 3 - Episode 5 - The start of super rugby shows South Africa’s speeding up.
James and Mils hit your ears again this week while Scotty's away in South Korea. But we won't let Sumo get away that easily, he joins the pod over the phone with a mouth full of kimchi to discuss the Blues lineup for their clash against the Highlanders and some of the winter olympiucs action. Plus, what has Fergie, of Black Eyed Peas fame, done now?

Season 3 - Episode 6 - It’s time for refs to punish ALL head contact
Sumo's back, baby. And dives right back into the rugby world with Mils as they navigate the tricky waters of whether or not refs should be penalising more accidental head contact. Plus, will the Blues ever get out of their slump to become a winning team?

Season 3 - Episode 7 - Is rugby getting too soft? We ask a veteran referee
Scotty and Mils talk to Bryce Lawrence, the manager of New Zealand's rugby referees about dangerous tackles, how the New Zealand referees are faring in Super Rugby so far, and ask the age old question: Is rugby getting too soft?

Interesting point about the very low pay ($25k to $30k) in the NPC. Might be time to rationalise and reduce the number of teams.

Shortball podcast was quite interesting again this week.

NZRU scientist/statistician discussing penalty lineout drive v kicking for goal statistics etc.

Interesting. May have to listen, because I'm firmly in the 'take the three' camp. Just get the points, get the ball back, and go down and do it all again.
