I can remember going to the Showgrounds in 1992 and watching a then first division Hawkes Bay lose 54/10 to 2nd division Manawatu. Whilst that was a while ago there are comparisions. Firstly were premier division and there not. Secondly like 1992 this Bay team on paper should be performing a lot better. What i saw in that first 15 minutes last week was appalling. No midfield defence and gaps so wide you could have driven 2 buses through them. You would hope serious work has been done to rectify this. If not Laumape can and will expose it yet again. What i want to see is the urgency in that last 10 minutes of the Tasman game replicated for 80.. If and only if we can do that will we be a chance of tipping these guys up.

Magpies team to take on the Turbos:

        1. Tolu Fahamokioa
        2. Ash Dixon (c)
        3. Ben May
        4. Geoff Cridge
        5. Mark Abbott
        6. Trent Boswell-Wakefield
        7. Tony Lamborn
        8. Fa'alemiga Selesele
        9. Chris Eaton
        10. Ihaia West
        11. Mason Emerson
        12. Tiaan Falcon
        13. Jonah Lowe
        14. Robbie Fruean
        15. Matt Garland

        Reserves:
        16. Jorian Tangaere
        17. Ricky Riccitelli
        18. Mason Kean
        19. Ross Filipo
        20. Ben Hamelink
        21. Brad Weber
        22. Billy Ropiha
        23. Ryan Tongia

Not really surprised by the changes. Weber was one of the worst against Tasman last week, including missing 5 out of 9 tackles. Not sure why they prefer Eaton over Wilson; maybe they need an angry old dog on the field to keep going after all those losses.

Riccitelli seemed to be in a lot of pain last week; surprised he's playing at all.

West wasn't much better than Weber against the Makos, but I guess they prefer Falcon at 12, despite having Ropiha available?

I'd have liked to see Mikaele-Tu'u at 20 instead of Hamelink.

Good to see them giving Mason Kean a run off the bench. I agree about Mikaele-Tu'u ahead of Hamelink

This ref is shitting me, 3 penalties I count so far against HB for not being bound at the breakdown when they are bound to at least one other player,

Nothing better than beating Manawatu in Palmerston North

I'll take it even though Manawatu rested their best 2 players as we have been so shit all year

Didn't see that win coming! I thought it would be one of those games again where all the ref's decisions would go against us and at least one Magpie would get a spell in the bin.

It doesn't mean much for the competition, but always good to win some bling. Just hoping now that Waikato, and Auckland if I can be greedy, lose.

Also glad to see that Ihaia's boot was working today.

By the way, why is it always shit weather when we play the Turbos in PN? That stadium doesn't seem to have good drainage at all. If it hadn't stopped pissing down, it would have been a game of water polo.

I think we should be thankful it was wet weather. Agree about the Penalties some terrible non bound calls. We will likely rue that loss to Auckland the most at the end of the season would have been in reach of not coming last if we got up over waikato. Unlikely as they will get up over Northland
