Boks v Wobblies @ Loftus
-
Redemption round. Boks coming off three straight losses, Wallabies looking for a road win to back up their two home wins in a row.
Teams:
Wallabies: Israel Folau, Dane Haylett-Petty, Samu Kerevi, Bernard Foley, Reece Hodge, Quade Cooper, Will Genia, Sean McMahon, Michael Hooper, Dean Mumm, Rob Simmons, Adam Coleman, Sekope Kepu, Stephen Moore (captain), Scott Sio. Reserves: James Hanson, James Slipper, Tom Robertson, Kane Douglas, Scott Fardy, Lopeti Timani, Nick Phipps, Tevita Kuridrani, Sefa Naivalu (one reserve to be omitted)
South Africa: Pat Lambie, Bryan Habana, Jesse Kriel, Juan de Jongh, Francois Hougaard, Morne Steyn, Rudi Paige, Warren Whiteley, Oupa Mohoje, Francois Louw, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Eben Etzebeth, Vincent Koch, Adriaan Strauss (c), Tendai Mtawarira. Reserves: Bongi Mbonambi, Julian Redelinghuys, Steven Kitshoff, Lood de Jager, Willem Alberts, Jaco Kriel, Lionel Mapoe, Willie le Roux
Wallabies have obviously settled on their backline going forward. But that's a shit pack. Simmons? Mumm? Moore? Still two opensides? (although at least McMahon is a bit more dynamic than Pocock).
As bad as the Boks have been, and it's been pretty bad, they should be too good at Loftus.
-
Just name a fucken 23 Cheika you indecisive fluffybunny!
-
He hasn't got a clue
-
Morne Steyn starting 10 at Loftus - party like it's 2007
-
@KiwiMurph Lambie at 15? new halves? I would imagine this is very much an attempted return to the 07-09 kick and bash. That'll work long term...
-
Coetzee is using a dartboard for selection in some ways, but in others its pretty obvious: kick the shit out of it.
Not sure de Jongh is the best defensive centre they could pick, and with the inexperience of Kriel at 12 we should be attacking the fuck out of that channel - IF we can get the ball wide enough. So I can only assume Alistair has them both there to do what the ABs did and rush the fuck out of Quade+Foley.
Likewise, I don't like Kerevi's defense at 13 for us, but hopefully this game sees a return to form for Folau, running into that channel between Kerevi and Foley.
Other than that, the boot of Hodge might be entertaining to watch in a shootout with Morne from either side of the halfway mark.

@Bones I presume Cheika is waiting for the paperwork on another Fijian to be Australianised.
-
That'd be awesome if the Boks lost due to a guy kicking goals from 60m+.

Naivalu in. Timani out

Good to know. The suspense was killing me
Hodge could be in for a busy day. This Boks side is pretty ill disciplined.
-
Boks look terrible, their defensive alignment is far too slow whenever the Wallabies go wide.

And stupid... killing time while Arsetralia has Folau sin-binned? WTF?
-
Ok, I'm still really really struggling to see what it is that has people rating Folau so much. I'd easily take Smith, Dagg and NMS over him, without taking into account other countries fullbacks. He's far from no 1.
Some very dodgy steals by both sides at the breakdown right in front of Barnes, definitely not holding own bodyweight.
Moore is bloody still having a whinge at every single stoppage, has nobody had a word to him to just take a breath?
The boks making plenty of half chances, just no cohesion and linking. If they turn that around they'll come out on top, but it's not looking likely.
-
Bok defence is so passive. Wobbles making yards with one off runners.
Books are as bad as I've ever seen them
-
There is some woeful rugby in this game.
-
Barnes is a weird ref. Ultra pedantic at times and blind at times.
The Bok fans will be steaming about some calls
-
Robertson, what a thorough dickhead.
-
Cooper and Genia must have thrown ten forward passes between them, and only one called so far. Reminiscient of the Reds 2011 abberration season

Lucky to stay on the field. Two down and ten to go... Idiot

It Ain't cheating if the ref doesn't catch you

Yeah considering Barnes has already said anyone who runs in will see a yellow card.
-
@Bones
He was smart enough to run in from behind the ref... Otherwise he'd be toast -
Aussie scrum getting mullered, might be the decisive factor in the end
-
very un south african play but then a DG, haha.
-
Well that's the game. Creativity from the Bok running a penalty everyone expected them to kick. Sets then up perfectly for a drop goal and Eight point lead
-
South Africa's defence inside their own 22 won them the game.
That was a golden chance for the Wallabies to win at Loftus.
-
@KiwiMurph scrum when both teams' replacements were on was deciding, too
-
Terrible game. Cheika & Coetzee would be happy with a mid table 6N finish at the moment.
SH moral high ground has melted away. NZ excepted...
-
Thought Steyn was poor, his kicking was aimless and defence was poor. Wallabies blew a chance to beat one of the worst Bok teams ever. Genia MOTM for me.
-
Ok let's explore the most pressing issues first. Did the boks acknowledge the wallabies ? And who is more overrated by the Aussies, Crusty the coach or Folau?
-
I hope the Boks humility was up to standards
-
How's the humility? Can you feel the humility?
-
Very tough game to watch. Boks defence was brutal, but man their attack was lacking any imagination.
Wallabies lacked precision and reverted to running across field, upright and a bit headless.

If I could vote five times for these comments I would. I haven't read the Australian blog comments yet but you can bet the referee and his predecessors all the way back to Paddy O'Brien are to blame, along with Michael Cheika, for the players being so bloody incompetent.
Nonetheless the Qantas Harmless Wallaby Kon Tiki Tour of European fun spots commences shortly - three weeks in Wales and Scotland before Two Fathers and Drewiee host them through the French and Irish nightclubs on Ewen's "no go" list. Then they get to be found out by Eddie. Again.
