TR fatbusting/fitness (as a try hard golfer)
-
I may as well get in on this<br />
<br />
Starting weight in January 99kg. <br />
<br />
Now 95kg, target 90kg.<br />
<br />
Did weights on Monday, went hard out, killed myself for weights for rest of week, but went for a 20 min run on Wednesday.<br />
<br />
Played 18 holes of golf yesterday, and went for a 15min run last night. <br />
<br />
My plan is just to eat better, exercise more regularly. Have stopped my twilight hockey, so can do a little more running and weights. Am playing golf at least 1 time a week, as I want to get back to being good at this, I need to manage my weights properly because to be good at golf you can't have your muscles changing too much. <br />
<br />
So doing what I did last week was not the best idea. -
What set up do you have with weights?...your own or do ya visit a gym..
-
Have a bench in the garage with a straight bar, curl bar and a pair od d/b, also a swiss ball and some handle attached to the roof for pull ups. Only have about 90k of weight though.
-
<br />
<br />
Like to have a set up like that, nothing flash i guess but only problem nowhere to put it...could get rid of the bed in the spare room, that idea didnt go down well tho :shifty: -
After a weekend on the piss and eating takeaways in Auckland, got home, went our for 25 min run...decided to run up my hill instead of avoiding that part of the street...had to walk a section, just too fecken steep! <br />
<br />
Will be out a couple of times this week, muscles still a little tight form weight session last week :idiot2: <br />
<br />
Oh, I also need to set a few goals for golf...more to do with consistancy I guess, something has always eluded me as a golfer. But am keen to break par on a few different courses this year, have done so already on one course I never managed to when I was actually supposed to be quite good!! -
keep us up to date with your handicap too <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
-
When I got my handicap back, it was 4.9, now at 4.7.
-
had 2 30 min runs this week, did some stretching and even decided I should do some golf practice. <br />
<br />
Weight 95kg <br />
<br />
Golf<br />
Score - 76Â meh (par 70)<br />
Putts - 35Â <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> (so much for the practice)<br />
Fairways hit - 7/14Â<br />
Greens in reg - 8/18Â <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
Of those 8 greens I hit, only picked up 2 birdies, overall, pretty shite! -
DO you have a goal of getting to a scratch handicap? Or is that a step too far from a 4 handicap?
<br />
<br />
Given my time I have to play at present, scratch is possibly a step too far, I'd like to be a consistant 3/4 handicap, when I was playing almost fulltime (as a 19 year old) I did get down to a 2 handicap.<br />
<br />
Am now on a 4.5 handicap, but still need to drop out some of my inconsistant holes, like 6's on par 4's, 8's on par 5's and so on. Just be happy to be shooting low to mid 70's all the time, if you look at my scores (as you possibly have) I am shooting mid-high 70's at present with the odd 80 chucked in to keep me on my toes! -
Only managed 1 run this week, still 95kg<br />
<br />
Played golf today, 76 on par 72. <br />
<br />
Putts - 31 (should be 24-27 per round) ave 33<br />
Fairways hit - 7/14 (50% ave) target 10/14<br />
Greens Hit - 9/18 (47.2% ave) target 13/18<br />
3 birdies from those 9 attempts (targetto be converting 30-40%) ave 29.15%<br />
2 3 putts and 1 double bogey. <br />
<br />
Reasonably happy, was 1 under par with 5 holes to go. -
I played 9 holes yesterday and hit 44. Not too bad since I have just started playing again after 3 years break. <br />
<br />
What clubs do you use? Heres my new set, its a bit mix and match as some were off ebay.<br />
<br />
Callaway FT-3 fusion driver<br />
Titleist 904F 3 wood<br />
Taylor Made Rescue 3-4 (thinking about getting a 2)<br />
Callaway X-20 irons 3-PW<br />
Titleist Vokey spin milled 56degree wedge (I want to get a 46 and 60 wedge too one to replace my current PW)<br />
Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5 putter -
Callaway Biggest Big Bertha 7 deg driver<br />
Wilson Ultra 15.5 deg 3 wood (old reliable, been the only club stayed in my bag! <br />
Wilson Staff Irons, just got them in Dec<br />
Ram 52 deg U groove wedge with 0 deg bounce<br />
Ram 55 deg square groove spin wedge<br />
Balata face putter<br />
<br />
I probably need to look at getting mineself a flop wedge, but to be honest, havent really found a need for one, more often than not, opening the face on the 55deg wedge is enough. <br />
<br />
Assume since you are looking at a 60deg wedge, and have a spin wedge you must be a (or used to be)Â a pretty tidy golfer. Otherwise, sounds like you got some good gear though. -
I peaked at about a 12 handicap using a really crap set of clubs. I've spent about $2000 on this set because I want to get serious again, and I think I have the potential to break 10 which is my aim this year.<br />
<br />
The only clubs I didn't get off ebay were the irons (which I wanted clubfit) and the driver (superceded by the FT-5). The rest I paid about 50% retail price.<br />
<br />
The putter was probably the most expensive at $325 but scotty camerons are really nice. I do however want a mallet putter, such as one of those oddysseys. -
Funnily enough, my putter is a nondescript no brand one, some days it is hot, others bad, but then I have always been a bad putter, so putters have never been a high priority for me, had had expensive ones too...they all run hot and cold! <br />
<br />
Am spending more time practising the 6ft putts at moment, they are the most crucial ones, they are the ones you are likely to miss for birdie or save a par from, if you make more of those than you miss, you should be able to drop a few shots off your score right then. -
Exercise - 2 x runs, 1 weight session, hour or so putting practice, still 95kg<br />
<br />
Played yesterday, shot 83, par 72Â <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Putts - 37 ave 32<br />
Fairways hit - 7/14 53% ave<br />
Greens Hit - 7/18 50% ave<br />
1 birdie from those 7 attempts ave 35.3% (these stats include 2 rounds not on here)<br />
<br />
Am hugely pissed about that score, actually hit the ball off the tee very well, of the 7 fairways I missed, 4 were by inches. On all the par 5's, hit fantastic tee shots, 1 was only hitting an 8 iron into it, in a position to his green for 2 and ended up bogeying 2/3 par 5's, the other I missed a 5ft birdie. A few of the par 4's, knocked a couple of drives out over 300m, <60m to green, and have made bogey or worse. <br />
<br />
Had 2 double bogeys and 2 triple bogies! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
My short game, fell to peices yesterday, need to get down the range and hit some wedge shots! -
I played just 9 today with my new irons I had never it. I think it destroyed my confidence and I hit one of my worst games ever.<br />
<br />
Need to also hit the driving range before I get back onto the course so I can get used to the new clubs. -
Forgot to update this, a bad week for me all round, personally.<br />
<br />
Played last Sat, shot same score as week before, stats even worse! <br />
<br />

*new stat that is very important for me; where I am within 40yards of green and I hit on the green and 1 putt, this is an 'up and down' -
Just to give you a bit of perspective (although looking it might not...) here are Tigers stats...<br />

<br />
Bolded bits - GiR means he hits 13 per round (maybe I need to lower my aim) and converts only 25% (again, maybe I need to lower my aim) <br />
2nd bit, is by far the most important bit, putts per hole, means he averages 31.23 per round - crikey, I think I need to re-look at which of my stats I have problems with!! <br />
<br />
Obviously his courses are a damn sight harder than the ones I play, but I am very surprised with those stats! :nta -

Next week have a match play tournament, 2 rounds on Sat, potentially 2 more on Sunday as well (although the way I have been playing for the 1st nine of each of my last 4 rounds or so, I could have early exits...top 2 inches!! <br />
<br />
I did manage to play 2 of my biggest mental holes well yesterday, par and birdie. -
Have you tried one of the more modern 460cc drivers? I reckon you could take a few shots off your game by using a bigger driver with a sorta 10ish degree loft.<br />
<br />
However you seem better than me so probably best not listening to me <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
Nah, am gonna look at upgrading my driver soon though, while the Biggest Big bertha used to be big, it is tiny compared to the modern stuff, mind you, you should see how timy the head on my 3 wood is!! <br />
<br />
BTW, loft is not what matters, is the shaft that makes the difference! My BBB is 7deg, while my 3 wood is 15.5, my last driver was 10.5 and I hit is lower than my current driver! -
No mention of a certain &^%^# putt you had <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I have moved on... -
Played in a Matchplay tournament, but missed out on the top 16 on Handicap, so played in division 2, where I had to give shots! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Ended up runner/up in plate. <br />
<br />
Hugely windy too, always makes it more challenging.<br />
<br />
First match, I was 3 holes down with 3 to go, won it on the 19th hole.<br />
<br />
Second match I lost on the 18th, had 3 opportunities to win this match, but couldnt close the deal! <br />
<br />
3rd match, was 1 hole down with 2 to go, had to give a shot on 1 hole (ie me has 4 he has 5, we draw hole) and I birdied the last hole to head down 19 again, and won that. In this one, one of the holes I had to give a shot, I birdied, but so did he which meant I lost! <br />
<br />
Last match, lost on 18th hole, after being 4 holes down with 7 to go.<br />
<br />
Played ok, can't update stats as a number of holes go uncompleted, so given I was a little concerned at being to cope with 72 holes in a weekend, I ended up playing 74! Actually feel like I have played rugby, am aching like hell! <br />
<br />
Still 95kg, cycled, ran & weights last week. May give up on the weight issue, as I feel fitter, am looking trimmer, but not shifting any weight. Been eating extremely healthy the last 2 weeks as well! -

<br />
I havent weighed myself for 2 weeks, still want to drop a few more kg's but dont want to start obsessing about it, thats for chicks to do!<br />
<br />
Anymore golfing tourny's coming up TR? -
A few coming up around Northland, but am not hugely interested in contesting too many this season, given my inconsistant play at present. <br />
<br />
Is one more that I will play in September, only a 54 hole tournament though. Other than that, just club champs. <br />
<br />
Man am I feeling it today, amazing how much golf takes out of you!! Mind you, I havent played 72 holes in a weekend since I was 22, so maybe something in that... :nta -

Hit 11/18 greens, 8 of the 1st 11 holes, and couldnt get anything to drop; next week am gonna probably not play but spend a few hours on the practice fairway with my wedges in hand! So often I hit a great tee shot (or 2nd on par 5) only to blow a birdie chance by a poor chip or 50 yard wedge shot, instead of hitting to 2 or 3 feet I am leaving myself with a 10-15ft putt...<br />
<br />
My handicap has moved out to a 6 now... <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
After about 40mins practice yesterday, I remembered that standing on a practice fairway hitting ball after ball sucks! So I decided I had just as well play and work on a few things out there...<br />

Horrific start to my round, 4 over after 2, 6 over after 7, finished 7 over. Once I put my driver away, I was fine! <br />

Changed something in my stance and all of a sudden I was firing wedge shots at the pin, hit 9 of the last 10 greens, my putting let me down as I failed to convert any, even the 2 foot ones... <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> <br />
<br />
The 1 green I missed was a par 5, my 3rd from 125m (front of green) hit a wedge and must have got it so good as I flew it OOB 15m out the back of the green...<br />
<br />
Positive is that my wedge game may be on its way to returning!! -
