I thought that this article spells out some accurate scenarios and Kims strategy.

Fattie has ordered the launch of more missiles this year than his old man did in his 17-yrs in power.
That's likely because they actually work now.

So NK tested something significantly larger. You would have to think war is inevitible and completely justified at this point regardless of what could be very likely nuclear results.
I found this summary equal parts enlightening and terrifyingly logical.
-
Seems Kim is even keen to push the limits of the Chinese with those tests.
While his arrogance and self view is rather lofty, you have to wonder if he is genuinely that stupid to think provoking the US and possibly China into war, or does he have some other idea about how this will be good for NK?

At what point will he potentially make bedfellows out of China and the USA? Unlikely I know but if he does he is farked
-
Could NK be getting to the point where the leadership is believing its own press?
His father might have had more sense but Kim Jong-un's entire life has been in an echo chamber. There were those murders recently of family members and ranking officials. My concern is that his actions may no longer have any real rational element to it so any attack may result in a nuclear response not necessarily against the aggressor but as a show of strength (before obliteration). -
@Rembrandt I doubt it. Even if he’s gone off the deep end, there’s still too many people around him that must be lucid.
Quite frankly he’s not doing anything I wouldn’t if I was in his position: Build and demonstrate capability to ensure your continued existence.
-
@antipodean will any of those around him stand up to him and say 'that's a dumb idea, sharpen up bro'
He has a niece living in NZ.

With the obvious caveat that I could be completely wrong, I've no doubt that it's a balancing act for everyone with a healthy dose of paranoia. That would extend to him as well given the purges, he knows he’s got to keep a number of people happy, all of whom you would presume don’t want to die.
-
@antipodean Surely a continued existence is best found by peaceful being a good little buffer zone between the might of 2 superpowers neither of which want to fight each other and as such don't really give a damn about what goes on in the communist utopia.

Puts Trump in a spot of bother - with all his rhetoric, if he does nothing he'll look like his promises are hollow.
Apparently China ships oil or gas (forget which) to NK, so they don't want to piss them off.
Trump had also threatened to break off a trade agreement with SK just beforehand, the guy is just a complete maverick really.

Big, fat oil pipeline that they switch off whenever one of the Kims starts to act like a child.

And also the threat to break off business with anyone doing business with NK - China accounts for around 4.4% of US GDP. So... yeah.
Again: fairly mindless rhetoric, whenever he's away from the teleprompter. Makes some foreign powers frown in consternation, but most roll their eyes.
The disaster in Texas gives Trump an out to walk back his "Build a Wall" promise, but I'm really keen to see what he does here.

Never ceases to amaze me that most media never gives any real context or history to how we got into this spot. Trump is likely a final chapter, but this book was written by the last 5-6 presidents who failed completely and utterly failed.
As the video earlier discusses, Bill Clinton, giving the nuclear material is a fuck up for all time, Bush being gormless and Obama being a coward just piled shit upon shit.
Discussing Trump as any way to blame for how we got to this point is just laughable, if you think his rhetoric has made any negative impact... you haven't been paying attention to NK for the last 35 years.
Now we are fast approaching a situation where NK will have the capability to invade SK and threaten world wide destruction if anyone stops them.
NONE of that is on Trump. -

NONE of that is on Trump.100% agree, though not being as shit as someone that's pretty shit does not give him an out. Whether or not his methods of dealing with Fat Boy are going to work or not, we don't know but he ought to be judged on that basis.
That we are in the current mess is not Trump's fault. How he deals with it will be at this door.

There is no good way to deal with it. There isn't even a least bad way really. Every path ends in shit. Trump has an array of terrible solutions. Whatever he chooses will be bad.

NONE of that is on Trump. What did Bill Clinton do? What nuclear material did he give them?
EDIT: Just re-read your post and went back to the video you mention. Can I suggest you get your facts from somewhere other than a youtube political commentator whose profile simply says 'I am God'
Clinton did not provide NK with material usuable for making atomic weapons. That is just completely wrong.
