Movie review thread...

I watched this Netflix Iraq war movie called Sand Castle - about a an airborne squad tasked with delivering water. It got panned by critics but I thought it was actually blood good and quite interesting. Superman was in it and he's a decent screen presence when Hack Snyder isn't directing him.
I wonder if critics are unduly harsh on Netflix produced films because they equate them with Direct to video?
Well Steven Spielberg Doesn’t Think Netflix Movies Should Qualify for Oscars and I think he's got a point when he says:
“I don’t believe films that are just given token qualifications in a couple of theaters for less than a week should qualify for the Academy Award nomination,” he continued.
I'd go even further and demand that any movie in colour, or with sound, should be automatically banned. Hand back your Oscars you twat.

@antipodean although 'Screeners' are distributed solely for Award consideration, how is that different?
Awards are a sham anyway!

Finally got around to watching The Last Jedi. It was...ok? I thought a bit self indulgent with the length, there was a lot of random stuff they could have easily edited out. I think i was most disappointed by the First Order. Hux was too cartoonish, and I still think Kylo Ren is a joke as a villain. There is no actual menace about him, he always feels like a pouty rejected swain who turns stalkerish. And the way they took out the Supreme Leader, bitch please. Rey, Poe, Finn, Rose were cool characters. I get the feeling DJ is going to appear again. And I wonder how they are going to deal with Leia in the next one.

Wrong thread.
Just watched it again with my boys. It's a gigantic pile of crapola and an embarrassment to the Star Wars legacy.

Justice League - eventually got around to watching.
Wasnt anywhere near as bad as some make out. Batman is the worst character. He can't help bring his angst to the party all the time. Lighten up dude.
Thought Aquaman was very cool, way better than the comic version of my day.
Spent way too long on backstory and the Superman in the cornfield scenes were plain corny.
Hardly rubbish though, when compared to some other shit around.

@nepia have you seen this? It’s actually grosser than anything the Farelly brothers ever did. Also there’s a lot of male nudity and castration.
The most unlikeable movie I have ever attempted to watch. Terrible overacting, overdosed on grossness.
Not a single redeeming quality.

@crucial Don't ever watch the sitcom called Workaholics - this is basically a movie length version of the show (characters and story are different but characterisations and humour are the same).
I quite enjoyed it after @jegga let me know about it.
But as you're a Justice League fluffer we know your taste is suspect .

Watched The Clapper. Bittersweet comedy. Low key. Enjoyed it.

Ready Player One: I enjoyed it as a movie and as a spectacle.
I'm a fan of the book and lots was left out and changed which tempered my enjoyment, so a warning to any book fans out there. Best to think of them as two separate entities.
My mate who hadn't read the book loved it. Lots of pop culture/80s references, some decent 'virtual action' and a decent cast.

Get Out....pretty fucked up little thriller, pretty decent though.

Agree. Accidentally started watching this thinking it was that much hyped Brad Pitt war film. Just kept on watching and really enjoyed it. Not sure why it was panned by critics. The acting, subject matter etc were all sound.

This was another one that the critics hammered I enjoyed, the way they showed the decline of the main characters mental state and the effect of the stop/loss system the yanks bought in affected him were well done. The subject matter isn't pleasant which might be part of the reason it was panned.

I liked the Brad Pitt one too, different type of movie though.
I also saw Siege at Jadotville which was good, basically Netflix just sends me all the war stuff now. -
@jegga watched The Beast of War the other night, pretty decent flick, amusingly though, Russian flick about the Afghan war, made by Americans...

The Beast of War
Is that the 80s film The Beast with Jason Patric?
