Monster Hunter - based on a video game, watched with TR Jnr.
was ok, nothing special.
2.75 it aint dead of 5 she survived a zombie apocolypse, she'll be sweet
Milla jovovich still looks good though.
So she’s in ANOTHER movie based on a video game in which she kills zombies ?
What a talent
-
@mn5 no.
-
Fury (2014) - tanks in WWII.
Solid film, great action sequences. Brad Pitt chewing scenery. Captures some of the insanity of war, but with an overlay of hollywood cheese.
That said, good fun. A solid 4 Shermans out of 5 Tiger tanks
-
@nzzp I had only just downloaded this on Friday night to watch soon, good to hear!

Jamie Dorman is in it. I only had two choices of movies to see that day and he was in both ...
Sounds like a good problem to have, will check it out!

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Just exactly how far up his on ass is QT? He made a nearly 3 hour movie that is about nothing.
As far as i can tell, the whole thing is a vehicle to prove just how much of a cool motherfucker Brad Pitt really is.
Oh, and that Margot Robbie is a decent looking sheila
i was pretty bored past halfway.
-
@mariner4life yeah, my dislike of not finishing a movie once started only just outweighed my boredom, acting was great....it was just a story that didn't need to be told...would rather have seen what he could have done with Star Trek

looked good, great acting, sounded good. but that's it. Not even that QT snappy dialogue. it just meanders along.
apparently you have to love a certain period of Hollywood to really appreciate it.
-
@mariner4life always the sign of a great film...only a real niche audience will appreciate it

A few genuinely outstanding scenes ( all involving Brad ) I do remember that much, but yeah also some seriously meandering bullshit too. I've only seen it once, will have to see it again to assess where it sits.

I love that film and don't love that certain period of Hollywood.
I'm a fan of up his arse QT though.

Shoehorning Zoe Bell into every movie is beyond cringeworthy though, what the fuck is up with his fascination with her ?

TBH, she's never a problem for me and clearly QT just likes her.
-
@nepia yeah ditto, I don't see what the problem is? Some people just like to get offended eh...
Watched Villains. Couple on a car journey crime spree end up trying to burgle the wrong house. Prolly could have been much better than it was, but was a decent enough watch for most of it. Feel like they phoned the ending in though as ran out of ideas.
2.5 Kyra Sedgwick out of 5 is budget Julia Roberts.

@mariner4life It's the first Tarantino movie I've enjoyed since Jackie Brown. I've watched it three times already, and I generally hate everything new.

Did you start the Grumpy Old Man thread ?

@mn5 I'm too grumpy for that thread.

I felt there was a good 30mins that were unnecessary but the good bits were brilliant.
Also Jackie Brown is vastly underrated.

I rate it pretty highly

Watching that makes me wanna watch Dead Presidents again.
-
I Care a Lot, starring Rosamund Pike and Tyrion Lannister
I really enjoyed this - original plot, and well acted. Pike makes you properly squeamish at how cold she is.
Lots of silly moments as well, but overall good fun.
4 abused old people out of 5 Russian mobster dwarves

Right, so, ... Tenet...
I didn't find it as confusing and un-understandable as I'd expected from reviews,
but... yeah, there was heaps of times I thought "nah, that's not how that would work"...
I'm really hoping that it's a case like Primer - where it doesn't make sense on the first watch, but makes more and more sense on each watch, but... not sure.
A lot of it at the back-end seemed like a big excuse for showing 'xplosions-in-reverseI do kinda like Nolan's production/direction style (the lighting or lack-of) of it just looking like real life. The very first scene reminded me of one of the Batman movies... no dark-ish atmospheric bullshit, just... this is how the lighting is in an opera house, or outside, or on a boat, or whatever.
-
-
@kirwan that looks like a lot of fun

Watched it a couple of weeks ago. Still can't figure out if I liked it, or was so confused I was unable to make up my mind

Dark Waters
Geez, pretty out there and rather depressing. Based on a true story and starring Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins, Bill Pullman. How did I know fuck all about this?
A tenacious attorney uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths to one of the world's largest corporations. While trying to expose the truth, he soon finds himself risking his future, his family and his own life.
-
@kirwan do we really need another zombie film? I know I'll watch though.
Has anyone even finished The Walking Dead series, and should I? I stopped at 7 I think.Look at this for a trailer, we are soooo excited for Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon

If it is done properly, always yes

Not I, there is a thread on here dedicated to TWD, think all bar @shark bailed on TWD several seasons ago.

I bailed when Negan arrived.

Great movie, and like you, very embarrassed to admit I knew nothing of it

@voodoo yep, put my hand up there too!
@Kirwan I thought Negan was fantastic in his first season, but after that...might have been the 2nd season after he arrived I gave up, which was at least a few years ago.
I gave up after the first Negan season as he was so tiresome a character and the storylines reached peak stupid.
-
The Walking Dead went on FAR too long, As others have said Negan went from awesome to fucken ridiculous in one season.
Did he die in the end ? Actually I no longer care......Like GOT that part of my TV watching life is in the past never to be seen again.
I’d happily rewatch Banshee, Penny Dreadful and Breaking Bad though.

The Little Things
It was either that or Wrong Turn and the other half won the coin toss and chose. Not too bad, good atmosphere and the three main actors ( Denz, Rami and J Dog ) are all terrific but it’s far too much like Seven ( and not as good ) and the ending left me a bit unsatisfied overall.
Worth a watch but not outstanding.
3 little things out of 5 big things.
Stay tuned for next weeks review, God bless cheap night at the movies.

Boss Level:
A video game repeat the same day/levels action film. An action Groundhog Day, or a more game orientated Edge of Tomorrow.
This was actually a fun action film. Stars Frank Grillo, Naomi Watts, Michelle Yeoh and Mel Gibson.
-
Sentinelle. English dubbed (badly) version of the French La Sentinelle. Female special forces soldier in gone wrong operation in the ME goes back home. Sister gets drugged and raped. Soldier goes on the rampage, heaping revenge on rich Russian rapist. Olga Kurylenko is the lead, looking hot and fit as a butcher’s dog. Mild sapphic sex scene. No tits. Poor story, writing and acting.
2 hot Olgas out of 5 predictable plots.

Watched the Foreigner on Netlfix tonight. Jacky Chan plays the father out for revenge who has a hidden past, Pierce Brosnan channels his inner Gerry Adams to play a Northern Irish politician and one time IRA member. Set in London and Belfast, the movie has a gritty feel to it, Chan is quite the opposite to his usual smiling Rush Hour style character. Great action, suspense, and a high octane ending. A solid 4 soda bottle bombs out of 5 viet cong style death traps
